Busy Busy Weekend
This weekend I
– drove way out of my way to have a great meal
– went for a pretty sucky hike (way hot, no tree cover)
– saw one of my best friends from childhood get married
– had good sushi
– watched my little girl go nuts over a toy
– failed to find a copy of the newest issue of ReadyMade at Barnes & Noble
– caught up with some people from my past
– got exactly 1 thing on my to-do list accomplished
– had a great time!
Obsess much?
G'morning all. I'm trying to shake the annoyances the day has already thrown my way. It will be a good day. It will be a good day.
Caring for my small, yet sometimes demanding, bundle of love leaves me with far less time for reading than I used to have. Luckily for me, the pregnancy fairy did not, apparently, take away my speed reading ability from me when she took away my memory, so I can still knock out quite a few pages in scant time. Plus, there's always the elliptical. Anyhoo, though I rarely buy books from Target (or anywhere else, for that matter) before I audition them, I like to look through their selections whenever I'm in so I can get some reading suggestions. Whoever picks their books seems to do a pretty good job. Anyhoo, since aforesaid memory abandoned me, I've had to resort to standing around like a dip with my notepad and writing down titles or stealing Matt's camera phone and taking a photo of the shelves. But the other day, I noticed a sticker on their books that says “Bookmarked.” Come to find out, they have all of their picks, as well as a book club type setup on their website. Very useful. Check it out. Continue reading “Obsess much?”
Are They Joking??
Last night was Sixteen Candles at Film on the Rocks. The movie is always the highlight for me, but before the movie, they usually have a band or two and a comedian to keep everyone amused 'til the sun goes down. Usually these bands are pretty good … the type you might pay a few pesos to see in a club or whatnot.
But last night, we had an experience that I wish I could personally share with all of you, simply because my description of it will not do it justice … not because it was good. Mr. P@cman was the opening act for last night and they were … crap. Apparently, they're a local “bitpop/gamewave” band. Their show was much more than music … it included bikini-clad go-go dancers, outrageous retro futuristic space suits and crustacean costumes. They threw juice boxes at the audience for some reason we never could figure out. In the beginning it was kind of “they're weird, how funny.” But their music just made it loud and annoying. Bad hard rock, with sampled 8-bit video game tunes and some screaming over top of that. And the go-go dancers. They also liked to say “summer.” A lot. We could have had a drinking game.
But they made for really good fodder for us … Continue reading “Are They Joking??”
My Sentiments Exactly
Well it was a fairly typical summer weekend at our household – BUSY. Truly, if you saw my Google calendar, your jaw would probably drop. This weekend contained two pic-a-nics … one for my company and the other, a family reunion for my maternal grandma's family (most of whom live here in CO). We chatted. We ate. We sweated (in the 90s all weekend). We ate. We played games. We ate. You get the idea.
Today was our “day off.” As usual, we went on a hike. This time in Corwina Park. I'd never been there before, but we liked it very much. It was a beautiful hike, devoid of mountain bikers and horses with a babbling brook along the trail that lead to a great outlook. We tried out the backpack which worked great, even for sleeping. Then we completed our “day off” with errands and laundry.
What I'm Up To
My sister recommended we get Lily Allen's CD, “Alright, Still” for my mom for her b'day, so I got to listen to it when I was riding around in her car last week. It is a really fun CD, with interesting poppy melodies and edgy, quirky lyrics. I especially love the song, Alfie, where she's trying to motivate her stoner brother to “get off his lazy arse.”
I know everyone read these books like ages ago, but I have had Da Vinci code sitting on my shelf for over a year (maybe two) and I'm finally getting to read it now … albeit in very small doses before I pass out at bedtime. I'm really enjoying the story a lot. I also just started the audio book of Angels and Demons. Apparently The Solomon Key is coming out in October. I reserved a copy at the library … I'm 274 of 275 holds for the audio book and they're only ordering 4 copies. I have a better chance of getting the Harry Potter book on CD … I'm 276 of 303 holds, but at least they're getting 30 copies of that!! Continue reading “What I'm Up To”
How things Work
My company is in the midst of doing a big addition to the CU Leeds School of Business. They showed us this movie at our breakfast meeting a while back … it's a time-lapse video of the building going up. Really neat. If you watch it, notice the part about 3/4 of the way thru when it goes white and stays white for like 30 seconds. Yea. That was when we had all those snowstorms.
Weekend in Vail
It was another one of those darned short weekends. We had a lovely time, though. And here are the corresponding photos.
Time Flies
I really want to blog, but my mind is too jumbled up with things right now. The last few days have just flown by in a haze of trips to Target, fun with friends and family, laundry, and Tabbiness. We haven't been home that much, but somehow, the house is still a mess. I've really got to get on it tonight because our cleaning person is coming tomorrow and I don't want my stuff hidden for good.
I have sent out three books already to various moochers, but have only asked for 1 in return. I don't know what to read and I have very little time to read it. Maybe Matt can get some woodworking books.
I have about 10 projects I want to do … and they are not happening at all. Seems like every time I sit down to do that sort of thing, I end up playing a computer game because my mind is so fried that I need something easy and something that doesn't require me dragging out a bunch of stuff that I'd eventually have to clean up.
A lot of the “new parent horrors” I have found to be grossly exaggerated, but this time thing … that one rings very true for me.
Batting 1000
Yesterday, before I went to bed (after Miss Tabby had gone to bed), I pumped. As I went to cap one of the bottles, I knocked it over. Anyone who's pumped before understands what a slap upside the head this is. Geez.
Before the pumping incident last night, I packed up a lovely lunch for today. Leftover dinner, cut up strawberries and edamame. This morning I removed said lunch from the fridge in preparation to leave the house. I dove into my backpack to find my sunglasses. They weren't in there. Searched the house. No sunglasses. I went to work without them. In all the confusion, I went to work without my lunch too.
Somehow in all that digging through my backpack, I failed to realize one important fact: my wallet is not in my backpack. It is not lost. I know exactly where it is. I put it in Tabby's diaper bag on Tues when I went to Target. So basically I've been driving all over the city without my wallet.
Luckily I have a box of Special K at my desk along with some other random edibles. Plus, I work with my mommy. I bet she'll buy me lunch. Just hope I've got enough gas to make it home. Sheesh.
