Bigboy Laptop

Ended up going home from work early yesterday. This killed me because I really need/want my vacation days (they are the same as sick days where I work) and I don't want to squander them on food poisoning. Oh well. So I went home and slept. Lots. I love sleep even when I'm not sick, but when I'm sick, sleep is even better. Anyhoo, I'm feeling way better today.

My laptop arrived yesterday. I am very excited to get it. But I didn't quite realize how big 17″ is. I don't think it will fit in my backpack. That said, it will be darn nice to play games and work with graphics on. Once I get everything sorted out.

See it came with Vista. I'm a bit opposed to Vista, cuz frankly, I think XP is grand. It's not like when we were all running 98 and it was so awful and it was nice to switch to something that worked. But anyhow, that's where it's going, so we went there with the new computer. Overall, it seems to mostly be a jazzier version of XP. But they put all your documents in weird places. Not sure what that's about. And for some reason that I haven't figured out yet, none of my fonts will load. It keeps saying their names are too long. I've got to figure out what's going on. I need those fonts. Sheesh.

Nothing Coherent Today!

I have some sort of nasty GI bug … food poisoning, methinks and I'm none too sharp at the moment. So you get the stuff that's rattling around in my brain.

I went crazy yesterday and bought Tabby this absolutely darling luggage. Cuz that's what every 5 month old needs, don'tcha know. I won't tell you how much it was, exactly, but I will tell you it was under $100 and on sale. Now I feel a bit better. It will not get here in time for the trip we're leaving on tomorrow.

Matt bought me a new laptop for my b'day which is arriving today. Hooray for that. I have found that I cannot use my stationary computer with any sort of success since Tabby was born. So now I will have a laptop that will go all over the house to wherever she needs to be. Anyhoo, since it shipped on Mon, I've been stalking it via FedEx's website. It started out in Shanghai, China (yet I still have to pay tax on it!!), then went to Anchorage, Alaska, then to Indianapolis, IN and now it's finally in Denver. It's a little sad that my consumer goods are more well traveled than I am.

Speaking of computer productivity, I actually managed to get Tabby's scrapbook started. This hurculean feat was possible only because I have decided to do this scrapbook digitally. I've always liked this idea, but have sometimes found it hard to get the pages printed as I would like them. But I googled “digital scrapbook printing” or something like that the other day and found Picaboo. Which is exactly that – a digital scrapbook service. They have laods of templates, etc. that you can use to make your own scrapbooks or you can do them up in Photoshop and import them as full pages for maxiumum control freak. I've already gotten a couple of pages done … and I didn't have to take out all of that scrapbooking stuff and make a big ol' mess. Continue reading “Nothing Coherent Today!”

Mooch this you ungrateful …

Sent out a bookmooch on Saturday. I don't normally send them first class, but it was the same $$ as media mail, so I went ahead. Got the following response yesterday evening: “This person should have mentioned that the back cover was nearly torn off, especially when I asked when requesting the book if it was in pretty good shape. But I'm happy to have the book. Thanks!”. In addition, I was not given my point, which means that I will not get a mooch in exchange for this one.

This ticks me off for a couple reasons.
1) The book was in fine condition when I sent it. So either it got damaged in shiping, or the recipient is lying in order to jip me out of my point.
2) Can I quick like explain something? THIS IS A FREE BOOK. Why the heck are you being so freakin' choosy about what condition you get it in? Can you still read it? OK then. Cuz if you're looking for some first edition collectible sort of deal, look elsewhere.

Karma. Ohm. Karma. Ohm. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Well, after all the craziness with Miss Tabby, we met up with our out of town guests, Matt's sister and her husband, Bryan, who Matt's brother, Andrew, was kind enough to pick up at the airport for us while we were finishing up with Tabby at the ER. I won't lie to you. Friday was consumed by a lot of sleep catching-up, but later that day we did manage to drive up Mount Evans. Sadly, it was pretty cloudy and we got some interesting photos but largely missed out on the spectacular views.

Saturday (my birthday!!) we visited Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory. Tabby and I sat out the tour because she wasn't allowed along and I'd been before. And we visited the Forney Museum, home of old trains and cars. Then we had dinner at Wynkoop.

Sunday we made breakfast at home and spent pretty much the entire day tubing on Clear Creek in Golden (Tabby got to visit Grandma). It is absolutely mad fun, but I got my shins (and bum) really banged up on all the rocks. I sat out the last run and stood on a bridge that goes over the creek to take photos of everyone.

Answer #1

Yvett, mommy to two adorable kiddies and one of the only bloggers who can consistently make me laugh asked “If money were not an object and everything could be made to your specifications, describe your dream home.”

Ahh yvett … truly a girl after my own heart. I have spent hours thinking about my own dream home, so I have loads to write about this. The exterior could probably be one of two things … either a stone English cottage style house or a funky stucco/brick affair with corrugated metal accents and roof … I'm also big on towers and turrets. I lean towards the later because I think it would go big much better. Either way, loads of wildish flower and veggie gardens all around … and a pond/river somewhere would be just peachy. A treehouse is a must. Either a barn or a large garage for Matt's work shop and an office upstairs in this barn/garage. Continue reading “Answer #1”

Riddle Me This

I'm tired and I've got a massive headache, so … Anyone wanna ask me some questions? This question thing seems to be all the bloggy rage. And why not? I'm completely blocked.

Fun with Wikipedia

Marisa invited me to play a little game with Wikipedia. Here's how it goes … type your birthday (August 4) into Wikipedia and find 3 events, 2 births, and one holiday .. and tag five people. Here's what I found.

Man a lot of depressing stuff happened on my birthday. There's loads of “so and so was found dead,” etc. For instance Lizzie Borden's family was found murdered on this day in 1892.

And in 1914, a little thing known as World War I began when Germany invaded Belgium and England declared war in Germany. The US sat on its thumbs (ahhh the good ol' days).

On the bright side, the global conspiracy that is the Free Masons saw fit to elevate George Washington to the highest basic rank of the fraternity in 1753. Yay!

Now, growing up, I always knew I shared my b'day with the Queen Mum and later, Billy Bob Thorton (oh whoopee :P), but who knew that I shared my b'day with the likes of Stefan Brogan (Snake from Degrassi), born in 1972 and Nascar Hottie (well, relatively speaking), Jeff Gordon, Born 1971.

As for Holidays, looks like the only one I can make much sense of is an Egyptian Festival, Jubilation of the Heart of Re, that was held on that day. How they did the calendar versions is anyone's guess. Maybe it was actually held some time in April?

I also found it interesting that on my actual date of birth (Aug 4, 1980), nothing is listed in Wikipedia. Hmmm…

As for the tagging bit, play if you like.

Jesser 2.0

As you may or may have not noticed by looking at my handy-dandy to-do list … a site re-do is in the works. Overall look and feel will probably change little, but I'm streamlining code and making certain things easier and nicer. You can preview my efforts here.

Obviously, I have scant time to work on this, so I'm stealing 10 minutes during lunch break and 20 minutes after Tabs goes to bed. And surprisingly, it's coming along. While I think it would be lovely to launch 2.0 on my blog's 4th blogiversary (8/8/07), I doubt it'll be ready in time. Anyhoo, if you have any thoughts on the redesign … things you wouldn't mind seeing or that under no circumstances can I get rid of or just general suggestions, let me know!

Gross out on Wednesday

Still no vacation photos. I'm very excited to share our trip and I'm kinda annoyed that I haven't been able to get my act together. But at least I have a good excuse. We went to see Back to the Future at Red Rocks last night. It was very enjoyable, despite the rain and the fact that I slept through part of it because I was so knackered. Anyhow … didn't get home til almost midnight.

But I have a very good and fun Wednesday game for you. Take a look at the photo after the jump and see if you can figure out what Loki ate and subsequently spit up all over our bedroom carpet. Weak stomachs need not apply. Continue reading “Gross out on Wednesday”

Still Here!

Hi All! I'm still here, just so insanely busy that this is the first time I've checked my email since last Wednesday!! Sheesh. We had a great time on our trip, but a recap and photos may be somewhat delayed since some of the photos are on my mom's laptop and I haven't had time to upload the others.

Hope all is well with everyone else.
