Busy Busy

In c ase it's not readily apparent, we are VERY busy!! My little sis leaves for college this evening, so there's been a bunch of gatherings making sure that everyone sees her before she leaves (and of course, sees us, now that we're here). And in the meantime, we've been organizing our surroundings so we can function and … house browsing. I can't really call it hunting, but we're looking for areas we want to be in and getting the general price of houses in that area. Denver is soooo big and we don't have too many set ideas about where it is that we want to live that we are having to do quite a bit of looking. But it's been really fun and interesting.

I've got some pics too that I'll post soon … Just need to find the time!!

Brain Power!

This quiz was kinda interesting. My results:

Auditory : 37%
Visual : 62%
Left : 60%
Right : 40%

Jess, you are somewhat left-hemisphere dominant and show a preference for visual learning, although not extreme in either characteristic. You probably tend to do most things in moderation, but not always.

Your left-hemisphere dominance implies that your learning style is organized and structured, detail oriented and logical. Your visual preference, though, has you seeking stimulation and multiple data. Such an outlook can overwhelm structure and logic and create an almost continuous state of uncertainty and agitation. You may well suffer a feeling of continually trying to “catch up” with yourself.

Your tendency to be organized and logical and attend to details is reasonably well-established which should afford you success regardless of your chosen field of endeavor. You can “size up” situations and take in information rapidly. However, you must then subject that data to being classified and organized which causes you to “lose touch” with the immediacy of the problem.

Your logical and methodical nature hamper you in this regard though in the long run it may work to your advantage since you “learn from experience” and can go through the process more rapidly on subsequent occasions.

You remain predominantly functional in your orientation and practical. Abstraction and theory are secondary to application. In keeping with this, you focus on details until they manifest themselves in a unique pattern and only then work with the “larger whole.”

With regards to your career choices, you have a mentality that would be good as a scientist, coach, athlete, design consultant, or an engineering technician. You can “see where you want to go” and even be able to “tell yourself,” but find that you are “fighting yourself” at the darndest times. Continue reading “Brain Power!”

Roll Call!

I'm in the throes of packing and moving, so I can't really make decent entries 'til that's over. In fact, we'll be without internet access for like FOUR days (what will we do???). Quel dommage!! No fear tho, I can pre-post some entries for your enjoyment.

Anyhoo, today I want to do roll call. Do you read my blog/visit my site on a regular or semi-regular basis? I wanna know who reads this thing and if I should be worried.

So … leave me a comment and tell me
1. who you are
2. your website (if you've got one, obviously)
3. how often you visit
4. anything else your heart desires

Rules

Lately I've had a series of dealings with RULES that just don't make any sense and a bunch of little people who either can't think for themselves or are too afraid to step out from behind their rulebook and do what makes sense!!!

Case #1: Idiots at Matt's Office
When Matt was hired, he was given $3K for moving expenses. It was a “forgivable loan” meaning that he had to pay it back if he didn't stay a certain length of time (all if he didn't last one year, h alf if he lasted 1 year, but not 2). So we're getting ready to do this moving/quitting thing and our lease is up on 31 Aug. Well Matt actually started work on 2 Sept so he and the idiots he works for/with had a three week battle about whether he could leave on the 31st and get to drive to Denver with me and my family (instead of by himself) and still get the loan forgiven. We heard tons of “It's our policy ..” and “We can't bend the rules …” It made us very annoyed because they have SO gotten their money's worth out of him. Calls that lasted 'til 2 AM, weekends spent at the office, and plenty of 80 and 90 hour weeks. Finally, though, they saw it our way. Matt will be able to leave with us. Continue reading “Rules”

All About Summer Meme

I don't have the time or creativity to write anything original today, so it's another meme for you unfortunate folks.

Harry Potter
3. Hamburgers or hot dogs? hamburgers
4. Boating or hiking? Hiking!

10. Go away for vacation, or stay at home? Vacation.

Sleep Patterns

I got the mojo (programatically speaking) going last night and just tore up the site and did a bunch of other work. So as a result, I was up 'til 6 AM. What can I say? When I get going really well, I just can't stop. That sort of stuff is too good to waste.

So this morning as Matt was leaving (he kept annoying me to see if his outfit matched … though in my exhausted state, I probably would have told him that a wet suit with a tutu looked good) he asked me what time I wanted the alarm set for and I stupidly said 10. So at 10, I got up! Urgh. I'm determined to stay up so I'll be tired at the proper time. I hate doing the night owl thing for too long. I hate being on weird sleep patterns and I miss snuggling up next to Matt.

Muskrat Luv, et al

When we were out walking the other day, we saw some sort of mammal swimming around in the little pond near our apartment. It just glided along and dove really well. So we watched it for a while. It was too small to be a beaver and now I'm pretty sure it was a muskrat. It's kinda neat! I'd never seen one before.

We also walked by another pond in another neighborhood and there were a couple of ducks with little ducklings swimming along in a row behind them. They were really cute!! Matt made lots of funny unmanly little sounds while watching them swim.

And we have done absolutely nothing of interest today. We just did the normal sorta stuff and CLEANED. We made this pizza tonight that was a lot of work. It wasn't hard, but a lot of work went into it and it was rather disappointing. It wasn't bad, just not to our taste.
