Meet Loki

Isn't he cute? This is Loki, our new puppy. To answer the questions everyone has been asking…
What's his name mean?
It's the norse god of mischief. And we don't care that we're asking for trouble. It's cute. After all, a rose by any other name …
What breed is he?
He's black lab and … err… we don't know. He's got longer hair than a lab, subtle brown under his fur, paticularly on his hind legs and white on his belly, front paws, and tip of his tail. He's very soft!
How old is he?
We don't know. The shelter and some others we've met think he's full grown (he has his big-boy teeth) and about a year old. But his paws are still quite large for his size, and he acts and plays like a puppy.
Where did you get him?
We found him at the Table Mountain Animal Shelter a while back. He was a stray. I wasn't ready for a new doggie yet, but Matt fell in lurve. We got him yesterday. And now I'm in lurve too.
Indor or Outdoor Dog?
He'll be an indoor dog, but we plan on having him spend LOTS of time outdoors … he'll need it to wear him out.
Weren't you going to name him Groucho?
We were … yes. That was his shelter name and while we like the name, we didn't feel like it fit him. So we re-named him. He's already responding to it.
Is he already trained?
I don't think so. He walks on a leash pretty well, but sit, stay, come, etc. are lost on him. We'll get there though!

We're Back!

Actually, we've been back since late Friday, but we had a jam-packed weekend and colds. I'm still coughing up a storm.

Thanks for all of the shout-outs about our puppy. It's always nice to hear people are thinking of you when you're down. We're still in the stage of thinking about May as if she's still around and it sucks when she's not. We miss her lots.

New Orleans was vair fun. We had a great time and got to be with Dan, who we never see, cuz he's so busy becoming a lawyer and my lil' sis', Kelly. We did the Bourbon street thing and Kelly and I discovered that we like sidecars (1p brandy, 1p triple sec or cointreau, 1p lemon juice, rim cup with sugar, if you please), we spent way too much $$ at the French Market, and we paddled around the bayou in a canoe! Good times.

Pictures will be posted … oh hell… I dunno when. Soon, I hope. Continue reading “We're Back!”

Rest in Peace, Dear Friend

Well, this post is a bit late in coming, but there is a good reason it's late. On Monday, we lost our dear friend May. She hadn't been quite as spry since her first seizure. She no longer wanted to chase her toy and she stopped greeting us when we came home.

On Saturday, after we got home from hiking, we found May right after a seizure. Before we could get her to the emergency vet, she had 3 more. They had to give her beau coup meds before she would stop and when we finally picked her up on Sunday, she was a shell of her former happy self. She was barely lucid, twitchy, and snapping at everything. She chouldn't walk either. We had a nice last evening with her despite the crummy stuff, including giving her lots of attention and some garlic bread.

On Monday, Matt took her to see her regular vet, and we'd already decided. If she was going to continue along this path, it was time. I went to work on Monday but I got the call early and after crying in the restroom for about 10 minutes, I met Matt and Holly, who had gone with him, and we skipped the rest of the day to remember May.

Have some garlic bread and a roll in the snow and remember the greatest doggie ever. I just know she's making “May Angels” in the sky.

Haircut

So on the way home from work (well work by the way of the gym, dinner and Ben & Jerry's) Matt and I stopped into Fantastic Sam's to get trims before we left for New Orleans. My hair had been driving me nuts, cuz it was too long and getting rather unmanageable.

I sat down with my stylist and I we were talking about what to do with my hair. Somewhere in there, “Layers” were brought up. I thought we had decided to NOT do them, but lo-and-behold, I sort of … err… ended up with them.

I think, after careful consideration, that I like them. But I'm still not entirely sure. And I know it's going to bug me that I can't put up my hair without the aid of barrettes…

The DMV

Urgh. So I went to the DMV this morning. Back in 2001 when I got my driver's license renewed because I turned 21, it was a simple little process. You waited in one line, dealt with one person and had your shiny new license by the time you left.

Not anymore. Oh no. Now you stand in no less than 4 lines, deal with 4 people (possibly more) and have to wait for your license to come in the mail (10-15 days). A whole hour of my Friday wasted. And I don't even have my new licsese. Continue reading “The DMV”

The Strangest Thing …

On my way to work this morning, i noticed an oddly shaped object lying in the middle of the road. It looked like a yellowish shoe. Just one of them. About a quarter of a mile down the road, I saw its mate. And this time I could tell what it was … it was, indeed a shoe. But not just any shoe … the wooden type, like they wear in Holland. Now I have one thing to say about that. WTF, mate?

Yikes!!

This reminds me of the rock my parents used to have in our front yard. It was there when we bought the house. Now, it's at our contractor's old rental house. Life is funny like that.

On the Brink

It's 6:30 here in CO, which reminds me of another thing to do … reset my blog time to MST instead of CST. And that's how my life feels right now. There's tons of little things in my life that I'm longing to do but don't have the time for. Today for instance, I'm going to stop blogging in about 5 minutes and then I'll go get ready for work. Immediately following that, I'll drive for about 25 minutes to work and then I'll work for about 8 hours. Then when I'm done working, I'll come back here and have as much of a workout as I can fit in, approximately 45 minutes. When that is done with, I'll get cleaned up and drive back across town to go to my Grandma's B'day dinner. That will last pretty long … I'm guessing until 8 or 9 and then we'll drive back across town and I'll spend the remainder of my evening getting ready for tomorrow and doing things that absolutely have to be done in some sort of time frame (i.e. pay bills or figure out what the hell that smell is coming out of the refrigerator).

And that, fun as it is, is what my life has been like lately. I've been running from point A to point B and spending very very little time at home. It's the polar opposite of living in Madison where, for about 6 months every year, we hardly left the house to do anything, except, that is, to drive to the airport and fly someplace more interesting. Haha.

I'm glad for being able to lead a more interesting life here and I'm sure things will calm down a little when we get more settled in, but right now, I'd give a lotta dough to be able to take Friday off (which I can't, since we have travel plans that I need to save them for!!).

I am, however, planning to spend an entire day at home this weekend. I will accept visitors, but I will not be leaving my humble abode. And hopefully that will give me some of the time that I need to get some stuff done!! And I don't mean pay bills.
