2019: Year of Consistency

I am happy to say 2018 was pretty darn good to me. Relationships, work, travel, creative pursuits and generally, most of the things that mattered to me went really well. There is always room for improvement, but as a whole, I feel seriously blessed and I am very very grateful.

As I always do, I’ve set some goals for 2019. I love doing this and spend literally hours, as the old year closes and the new one begins, making plans. It’s serious nerdy fun for me.

The thing that I’m not always as amazing about is … keeping them. Oh in the grand scheme, I do, but I’m not always super spot on. For example, while I read over 70 books last year, I only read 6 of the 23 that I listed at the beginning of the year as wanting to read … and not because I don’t want to read them anymore (mostly), but because I forgot about them. I stopped doing good tracking in MAY. Less than halfway through the year.

So my word for the year is CONSISTENT. And I want to come back here and write down how things are going every month. It’s going in Todoist, so it has the greatest chance of actually happening ever.

And what goals did I pick?

  1. Complete 150 OTF (Orange Theory Fitness) classes. This is just under 3/week which is a good pace for me. Very achievable, especially since I can frequently hit 4/week.
  2. Lose 30 lbs. ‘Nuff said.
  3. Read 70 books. I did it this year and I’m sure I can do it again.
  4. Read 10 specific “goal” books. I’ve got 10 written down, but I’m thinking about changing at least one of them for something I’m more passionate about reading. But we’ll see.
  5. Monthly dates with Matt. Should be more than doable.
  6. Quarterly dates with each kiddo. This is harder. I need to schedule these and make specific time for them and also find ideas.
  7. Complete and commit to a plan for each month. This boils down to: what’s on the schedule, what needs to be accomplished (at home, at work, etc.), what expenses do we need to plan for and what am I doing to achieve my goals. Doing it isn’t hard … remembering to do it is the problem.
  8. Learn 10 specific new pieces on the piano. Still refining what they are a little, but at least 7 are pretty set in stone.
  9. Post 100 times to my art-focused instagram account. This averages out to a little less than 2x/week and as long as I’m making art consistently, should not be a problem.
  10. Complete 2 yearbooks – one for 2018 and one for a previous year. 2018’s is almost done – just need to add photos from December – and I’ve compiled and uploaded pics from 2007. I think I can definitely achieve this.

This is all very doable, of course, if I just stay CONSISTENT.
