Visitors from Nashville

We spent the weekend with some of our Nashville Family. They came to town to enjoy some CO winter fun and to show off the latest addition to the family, our darling niece, Autumn.

We got going after work on Thursday and made the short trek to Vail. On the way we stopped at Silverthorne to check out the Ice Castles there. Unfortunately, it was frigid out which made it really hard to enjoy the castles. We did a cursory look-through and headed back to the car.

We settled in at the condo and put the kids to bed. Our kids had colds and pink eye and goodness knows what all week and they had to go to bed nice and early. The next day Matt and I headed out to ski while the kids stayed with everyone else who was still acclimating to the high altitude. We had a beautiful blue-sky day of skiing and my dad joined us in the PM to finish out the day.

The next day Matt took Tabby, his brother and brother in law up skiing while I hung back with everyone else. Ben was really doing badly with a terrible cough, some fever and drippy snotty nose.

We had a nice walk around the village, but before long I had to go get Tabby.

Ben seemed OK with my leaving, but he had a colossal meltdown just after I left and fell asleep on the stairs waiting for me to come back. Poor little guy.

We had planned to go to dinner at the top of the mountain but high winds shut down the gondolas (the only way to the top) so we had to bag that plan and instead had a nice dinner at another restaurant, despite the tired, cranky kids we took along.

Sunday we left early, knowing that traffic would be terrible. We missed the worst of it and got the kids down for naps at home. We went to dinner at my parents’ house in the evening so they could meet Miss Autumn. We got one last visit in this morning at breakfast. Tabby in particular was upset to see everyone go.

It was a nice visit. I loved meeting my new niece. She’s a good sweet baby and a real charmer. It was unfortunate that the kids were so sick for the visit. I spent most of my time taking care of them instead of soaking up baby sweetness. I don’t mind taking care of them, of course, but the timing wasn’t the best – I was constantly worried they were breathing or coughing on her and they didn’t get to enjoy her as much either. But they had some sweet moment – Ben liked tickling her feet, Tabby fed her her bottle a few times. We all got snuggles.

We will look forward to our family trip in May. I can’t wait to see how she’s grown and changed by then!
