Pimp My Ride

The Kelty Deuce Coup that we bought at a garage sale has, unfortunately, seen better days. It isn't a bad stroller, but it has one major flaw, namely that I must put my hands at shoulder height to use it. This makes running with it nearly impossible. At first I was blaming my lack of running experience for my inability to push the sucker more than a block, but after pushing my friend's BOB Revolution, I know this isn't the case. I could've pushed that guy all day.

Well maybe not ALL day. The sun was some kinda fierce. Anyhoo, so we're in the market for a stroller. Blah. I mostly hate the idea of the ginormous price tag associated with relatively decent jogging strollers. Then there was the two-vs-one thing. We only have one kid right now. We'd like to change that sometime in the future, not right now, but y'know … sometime in the future. But you look sort of ridiculous toting around a jogger meant for two with just one. I tried to put Loki in the other seat, but he took umbridge with the idea (go figure). Last but not least, I really hated the idea of a huuuge double-wide jogger that is so expensive, and yet I can't even take it anywhere else because it won't fit in my car and it won't fit through doors. That is the one thing I dislike about the BOB. It's large and in charge.

Enter Phil and Ted. They have some of the most unique joggers I've ever seen, mostly double-decker joggers! I saw one of these at the Zoo and I thought it was great. I chatted up the mom about it and she confirmed it was a hit for them. Reviews have also been excellent and it meets most if not all of our criteria. 1. Color (also comes in Camo pink that I adore, but Matt wouldn't be caught dead with), 2. adjustable handle for 5' nuthin me and 6' him, 3. room for two AND you can take off the back seat when just one is along for the ride, 4. pivoting front wheel, 5. narrow width, 6. good storage (though this is somewhat diminished when baby #2 is in the back) … very nearly perfect. But oy. That pricetag. I will be saving my pennies.

  1. Oh, I am so mailing this to my friend Laureen! She has teeny tiny twins and the jogging strollers are the only things that work well on our dirt roads She will love this!!

  2. I'm just not into the extremely expensive strollers. It just isn't in my blood.

Mine is perfect for us. I definitely recommend the adjustable handle (I'm tall, so I need the adjustable handle as well) and a swivel wheel up front. I think I'm the only one of my friends who has a jogger with these options, and they are all a little jealous when we go out .

  3. I LOVE that stroller. Love it! Like you, though, it's way outside my price range. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can save up and get one, and then I can live vicariously through you.
