Christmas Movies

I have nothing to say today because yesterday was so utterly unremarkable and I'm so sleep deprived that even if something had happened, I wouldn't be able to remember it to tell you about it. So I'll tell you all about my favorite Christmas movies, then you can tell me about yours. Deal?

#1 A Christmas Story
Who can help but love the story of Ralphie and his crazy family? All Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun, but the whole world is against him because they're afraid he'll “shoot his eye out!”#2 National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
This classic is the story of Clark Griswold who just (gosh darnit) wants a good old-fashioned family Christmas. Too bad everything Clark touches seems to be cursed. Clark handles it in stride with a touch of profanity along the way. “And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.”

#3 Love Actually
This is a bunch of stories all set in London and all woven together and all having the backdrop of Christmas behind them. It's not so Christmassy but it's very sweet and terribly funny. Probably my favorite story centers around the grandfather of Rock 'n' Roll, Billy Mack, trying to make a big comeback with a crappy pop ditty with a few lyrics changed to be Christmassy. Hilarious stuff.

#4 Home Alone
What can I say? I'm a child of the 80s. I can't help but love this movie … in case you've been living under a rock, 8-year-old Kevin accidentally gets left behind when his family flies off to France for the holidays and has to find some rather clever ways to defend his house against a pair of blundering burglars. There's some cheesy ain't family grand stuff in there too.

I'm looking forward to some nice quiet time with a pair of scissors and a roll of scotch tape and a cup of cocoa and some gifts strewn all around me … watching these most excellent movies. Snow would be OK too.

  1. I LOVE LOVE A Christmas Story. I think it is my favorite Christmas movie.

Love Actually is another good film.

I like all the cartoons they are showing or about to show now. Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Rain Deer, etc.

  2. A Christmas Story is hilarious and doesn't get old. Have you seen the Cingular commercial that says “You'll run the bill up”? I'm partial to all the cartoons. I love Charlie Brown Christmas and the animated grinch movie. We have Mickey's Christmas Carol and the kids watch it over and over again.

  3. I would have to say Christmas Vacation, Home Alone 1&2, and A Christmas Story are my faves. We have the Disney one here for storytime “Pluto's Christmas Tree”.That is a great one too. It has Chip and Dale
