NetFlix

I've just signed up for a free trial of NetFlix. I really doubt I'll keep it once it goes pay, but I wanted to try it out and Matt and I have been trying to rent Babylon 5 from Blockbuster but they don't have it and NetFlix does. So I figure … for free it's worth a try. They say they'll ship our first 3 discs on Friday and they'll arrive in 1-3 days. Sounds kinda cool. Too bad the pay service is $22/month. Oh well, it's still better than Blockbuster.

Mosquitos and Movies and Tea

I have about a zillion mosquito bites all over me. Seriously. There are 3 on my face … and needless to say all over my arms and legs … even my shoulders. Grrrrr. I know it wasn't this bad last year! Why did we have to have all this rain.

It's particularly bad around our apartment. I dunno who made up the landscaping scheme around here, but it is not good. It doesn't drain properly and then you've got standing water all over the place … which mosquitos love (or so I'm told).

Matt has burnt out his bug zappin' racket and I need to find him a new one so he can continue to wage war on our insect foes. Makes me think of Starship Troopers.

Speaking of which, they made a sequel to it!! Can ya even believe it?? I almost want to see it. I really enjoyed the first one … from a wow isn't this crappy point of view. I even have it on video (Blockbuster previewed … $3.99). Continue reading “Mosquitos and Movies and Tea”

Monday at the Gym

I usually go to step class on Monday mornings. I like to think it gets my week started off right. Usually we have the same person teach it. I don't know her name. She told me once … didn't stick. Anyhoo, today we had someone new. I don't know what her name is, but I'll forever think of her as Ms. Nasal. Her voice was about a half-step below Fran Drescher on the annoyance scale. Plus, as she's an aerobics instructor, she's perky. So combine perky with nasal and you have my step teacher from this morning. ARGH! It was awful. Oh yea, did I mention her choreography sucked?

Anyhow, after 45 min of Ms. Nasal, I could take no more and bailed. I think they were about to start the pointless “sculpting” bit anyhow, which I never do. So I left to lift weights. I was in a pensive mood today and so I started analyzing everyone around me. For posterity's sake, here is a rough classification of weight lifters: Continue reading “Monday at the Gym”

It's a Jungle Out There

Matt and I have had a very nice day. We've done the errand stuff … including finding me a $20 copy of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time at the used media store … and then we had a very long bike ride (rode all the way down town and back!). And then to cap it off, we had a nice little relaxation at the pool … with some swimming, snacking and sunning.

As we were on our way back to our apartment, we were swarmed (and I mean SWARMED) by mosquitos!!! Arrgh! We made a run for it. And Matt got mad. Continue reading “It's a Jungle Out There”

Saved!

I really liked this movie. There were a few plot holes, not the least of which is a girl as small as Jena hiding the fact that she’s pregnant from everyone for 8 months. But in light of how funny the movie is, they can be easily overlooked. What’s best about movie is how accurately they portray all the stereo types. Every single character in the movie I could replace with someone I knew growing up. I think it helped that I grew up in the bible belt, Nashville TN but these schools are everywhere. If you’ve never meet anyone who goes to one of these schools, you may not get the movie. If you have, which I assume is most people, you’ll laugh your ass off.

Poor Puppy!

We took the puppy for a car ride last night. She loves car rides. So we got back home and pulled into the garage and went to the back to let May out. These days, we usually give her a hand down because she's not exakly a spry puppy anymore. Anyhow, before we got a chance to give her a hand down, she hopped on out …. and smashed into the ground. She let out this pathetic little yelp (she rarely yelps) and wheezed for a minute or two (we think she got the wind knocked outa her). When she got up, she was limping and Matt carried her upstairs. We gave her lots of snuggles and a doggie treat.

This morning she seems OK but she's got a bit of a limp. If it doesn't clear up soon, we'll take her to the vet.
