Atlantis Resort, Bahamas

As I mentioned before, we stayed at the Atlantis Resort in Bahamas. It's located on Paradise Island, just off New Providence (where Nassau is). The setting is beautiful. White sand, gorgeous water, warm weather, warm water, Lovely. Atlantis, however, doesn't measure up to nature.

It's not cheap to begin with. You pay quite a lot for rooms and for your meal plan (which you basically have to get, because it covers most of the resort restaurants and it's hard to get away from the resort – more on that later – and without it, food would be too expensive to consider eating) but it doesn't stop there. Every second you're there, practically, you're handing over the dough by fistfuls. Everything on-site is ridiculously expensive, so that when you get back to the airport, things seem reasonable by comparison. Some if it, I'm sure is import cost, but far more is resort mark-up. And they've got a very captive audience because it's very hard to get away from the resort. It's pretty inconvenient and as usual expensive.

Not being able to get away from the resort is a pain for a few reasons. First, there's zip for shopping. I don't want to spend my whole vacation shopping, but I do love to find some interesting local jewelry or something to take home. There's not much of that. Gucci and Versace abound though. More Outdoor Movies

Colorado has turly beautiful summer nights. Rarely hot, never humid, they're so … pleasant. We don't even have that many bugs (having fairly little water helps). So it's no surprise that we have a plethera of outdoor events in the summer, especially in the evening. Recently I discovered the Boulder Outdoor Cinema offering such movies as Spiderman2, American Graffiti, and Singing in the Rain and the Starlight Summer Movies Series in Castlerock featuring movies like City Slickers and Ghostbusters. I definitely plan to see some more Film on the Rocks and I might need to pop down to Boulder and check out a movie or two – they're a smidge cheaper and always on weekends. Sadly, Castlerock is too far to travel for a movie. Continue reading “More Outdoor Movies”

We're Back! Again.

So as you might have guessed, we took off for a little trip. We went, where else, but to the big apple . My little sister was graduating from NYU and we had to go and hear her name called and such.

Now I was going to be all good and pre-post some stuff for you to read, but we had company right before we left (Matt's lovely Mummy) and packing and laundry an life and somehow I dunno, I just didn't get around to it.

So now I'm back and I'm working hard to catch up, but I just wanted to pop in and say hello and I didn't disappear into thin air and I'll be back when I catch my breath!

Matty's Home

I was so glad to see Matt when Mom and I picked him up at the airport. I rather fell to pieces in the two weeks he was gone between my injuries and losing not just 1 credit card but 2 – on separate occasions. I was pretty much overwrought from doing everything I normally do, some of the things he normally does, and taking care of a sick dog – who, incidentally, could not go to doggy day-care to get all worn out because he was still sick. And then the weather turned foul and I couldn't even take him for a run. Needless to say, I was glad to see Matt for more than his charming personality and snuggly ways.

He has many pix from Cali and I am making him post them and talk about his new job.

Off now I am to finish up the scrap book.

Hiatus

Well, Monday Meal is going on Hiatus this week. Matt left for Cali yesterday and I just can't be bothered to make a meal on my own, especially after what happend last night. I went to the trouble to put a bitta rice in the rice cooker and then saute some zucchini and mushrooms. The “main course” was to be a frozen salmon filet with dill sauce on it that I got from Target. It was the only thing going in my oven, so I decided to put it on one of our oven proof plates – less mess in the long run, since I could eat off it as well. Bad choice. Of course after it came out of the 425 degree oven, I promptly forgot it had been in there and put my hand right on it to pick it up. I managed not to sling it across the kitchen, but it did get dropped a couple inches onto the counter where it did that rotating plate thing for a second and just sat there. But the damage was already done. My hand was burned. BADLY. I am, in fact, sitting here looking at the blisters on my thumb, pointer, middle, and index fingers. The pain was so bad I had it on ice or in a bucket of water until almost 2 AM when I finally fell asleep. This morning, I was OK to go without ice, but it still stings like hell.

Matt is in Cali now. Maybe he'll write something up for us. Yea, I wouldn't hold my breath either. He'll be vair busy with his new job. It's going to be so much fun for him. Before this, CO was the farthest West he'd been. And I'm sure I'll be visiting him occasionally… Continue reading “Hiatus”

We're Back!

Actually, we've been back since late Friday, but we had a jam-packed weekend and colds. I'm still coughing up a storm.

Thanks for all of the shout-outs about our puppy. It's always nice to hear people are thinking of you when you're down. We're still in the stage of thinking about May as if she's still around and it sucks when she's not. We miss her lots.

New Orleans was vair fun. We had a great time and got to be with Dan, who we never see, cuz he's so busy becoming a lawyer and my lil' sis', Kelly. We did the Bourbon street thing and Kelly and I discovered that we like sidecars (1p brandy, 1p triple sec or cointreau, 1p lemon juice, rim cup with sugar, if you please), we spent way too much $$ at the French Market, and we paddled around the bayou in a canoe! Good times.

Pictures will be posted … oh hell… I dunno when. Soon, I hope. Continue reading “We're Back!”

Weekend and Week

We had a great weekend! Grand Lake was very very pretty (I've got pics … they'll be posted later) and everyone we went with was great to be around. We had lots of fun.

We stayed in this funky cabin called the Gingebread Cabin but, as Mike said, “It should have been called Shipwrecked.” It was largely wood, with the most elaborate built-ins you can imagine and instead of traditional light switches, it had huge ship control panels with toggle switches and push buttons. Truly incredible.

I got to try two new sports for me: snow shoeing and cross-coutry skiing. I was not paticularly good at either, but I enjoyed both. Unfortunately, my X-country experience left me with some blisters. We also played tons of Hello Kitty Uno and ate lots of Holly's great Chili and Matt's Mexican Chicken Casserole. Yum. Continue reading “Weekend and Week”

Good Morning

This is about the fourth time now that I've tried to sit down and write a darn post. Sad, eh? My life is a bit too busy right now. I shouldn't complain though. I thought I'd die of boredom while we were living in WI.

This weekend, we're packing up the ol' SUV and heading up to Grand Lake. A bunch of people from the office are renting cabins up there. And we'll be snow-shoeing and curling (I understand this is done ghetto style with tea-pots) , and sledding and ice fishing (the purported reason for the trip … something I have no interest in, however). It should be great fun.

So this evening I've got to get all packed up for that because tomorrow I've got a “breakfast meeting” that starts at 6:30 and then we'll be getting out of here ASAP! Which reminds me. I'd better call Matt and have him charge my camera battery.
