San Francisco Day 1

We got into San Fran last night after a fairly un-eventful flight. Tabby was a model baby, not making a fuss even once!

Today we had a great day exploring the city by the bay with our excellent hosts, Eddie and Donna. A full photo journal is here.

2nd Annual Cookie Extravaganza

As I might've mentioned, we went away this weekend to hold the 2nd annual cookie extravaganza. Last year's was little more than my friend Holly and I going insane in my kitchen one Saturday afternooon & evening … this one involved 7 adults, one baby and a weekend trip to Vail for a large-scale operation.

I will have to post recipes later as my books are not available this moment, but here's what we made:
1. decorated sugar cookies
2. cranberry oatmeal cookies
3. giant ginger cookies
4. chai crescents (not actually crescent shaped)
5. peppermint bark
6. a huge mess!
7. some great memories

Hope everyone else had a great weekend!

Happy Fall!

With the first official days of fall under our belts, we spent most of the day Sunday on a Fall Foliage trip. We went back to Georgetown, where Matt and I (and Loki) had first taken our shiny new camera for its inaugural trip. This time we were accompanied by most excellent friend, Holly and her darling offspring, Liam. We had lunch and got sodas at the soda fountain and then drove up aways to see the color. Photos are plentiful and here. The color and the day we selected to see it on was gorgeous and the company superb. Continue reading “Happy Fall!”

Crested Butte

I'm still trying to get over the shock that it's not August anymore. I haven't yet started to cope with the fact that summer is (in most ways anyhow) over as well. Sheesh.

Well anyhow. We spent our Labor Day weekend in the delightful mountain enclave of Crested Butte. We went there for our friends' wedding. We had never been to Crested Butte before and we both enjoyed it a lot. A lot of CO ski towns have become fairly … ritzy … with art galleries, jewelry stores and high-end boutiques flanking every street. And it's harder when you're on a budget to enjoy a weekend there. But Crested Butte is still a classic ski-town. Kinda hippy, funky. Stuff is still reasonably priced and food isn't covered in foie gras. Dogs are welcome (even big ones, though Loki actually spent the weekend at Doggy Daycare) and everyone rides around on cruisers (is it any wonder I loved it there??).

Saturday we rolled into town in late afternoon. We checked out the town and went to a pre-wedding BBQ. Sunday was outdoorsy … guys biking, girls hiking … I got sunburnt (and I was wearing a hat and 30 SPF, thank you very much), but took some great photos. Then a very enjoyable wedding. It was nice to see two great people joined together in such a beautiful setting.

Monday we had leisurely breakfast and drove home. More photos here.

Jellystone Park

Well, we're back from Yellowstone. We had a very nice time, despite some of the foibles (described later on). We got within feet of bison and saw tons of other animals (wolf, elk, pronghorn antelope, moose). Matt was suitably impressed by the natural wonders the park has to offer and we took about a billion photos (OK, 475). Not everything was exactly as I remembered it … apparently, the hot springs look different from year to year based on a variety of factors, but it was still really cool to share the experience of Yellowstone with Matt. It's truly an incredible place. Continue reading “Jellystone Park”

Packin' Up

Well I'm working a normal day, and then I plan to spend the rest of the day getting ready for our trip. Mapquest directions are being printed, along with park maps and confirmation sheets. The car is in the shop today getting a tuneup for the big drive.

I decided to make PBJs and black bean and cheddar quesadillas for road trip food. They'll hold well and have protein and such. We'll also have the usual array of fruit and snacks and beverages.

Loki gets to come along, so we're looking forward to that. It's always a little disappointing to go on vacation without our furry member of the family. I know he's going to have a great time in the great outdoors (for five whole days).

Well I've got loads to do, so best be off. I'll keep the chatter coming while I'm gone thru the magic of the internet.

Broken Camera

Well I thought mom might save me on the photo front … she took almost 60 photos this weekend, but alas, after viewing them I have come to the conclusion that her digital camera is broken. Everyone is blurry (even ones taken in full light that have no business being blurry!) … This one, displayed here was one of the only ones that looked decent, unfortunately. It also makes it look like we were on the set of A Perfect Storm all weekend, which really isn't the case. Oh well. It's a cool photo anyhow! : )

No Photos Available

Keeping up with my recent trend of photographic laziness, I took exactly 0 photos this weekend. I brought the camera. I intended to use it (even charged the battery), but it somehow never made it out of my backpack. Perhaps I was just having too much fun. Well that's not so bad. It was a great weekend, despite (or perhaps because of) the rain. Lots of rain. Weird for CO in July … but anyhow … just so you don't feel as tho the visit is a total jip, a couple of links:

* another mac 'n' cheese recipe I'm going to have to try
* postcards printed with your images and text, no pens or stamps necessary … think of the possibilities

Off Again

Well, there's no rest for the weary … we're heading off to Grand Lake this weekend … there will be loads of summer fun going on, I predict. Photos when I return … Have a great weekend … and Happy b'day to my little sister!

Beach Vacation

Well, I've started the process of uploading photos. I'm doing them in 2 sets (maybe 3) since it was a long trip. I put up the beach photos last night. I didn't get as many as I'd hoped, but there are a few nice ones. You can see them here.
