One Month Old!

Well today marks Miss Tabby's one-month birthday. It's so hard to believe that it was over a month ago that we first got to meet the person we'd been dreaming about for almost 9 months. What a happy day!

Now a month later, she's bigger and more alert and interested in the world around her. I am so looking forward to seeing her grow and change in the upcoming months.

We're so happy you came to live with us!!

Gratuitous Cute Baby Photos

Almost a week between posts? Yikes. Days have been flying by. Matt's mom visited over the weekend and he enjoyed introducing her to her grand-daughter. I need to post some photos to flickr, but these will have to do for now. Someone's going to need to eat again soon and I'll be lucky to finish this, honestly.

Things are going well. She smiles (don't care what the experts say … these are not gas related and they are smiles!!) and makes funny little noises … squeaks and grunts and coos and I think we love her more and more every day. She goes between being a good sleeper, sometimes sleeping for up to 6 hours straight and then having nights when she's up every two hours. Schedule schmedule.

Loki Luvs Tabby

Ryan (my cuz) has suggested that everyone might like to know more about how Loki likes having a little sister. And i'm pretty confident to say that he is pretty fond of our new addition.

Crack hound though he is, Loki is very very gentle around kids, especially little ones and I find it amazing that he seems to know who he needs to treat more gently. Not only is he very gentle with Tabby, he's also very protective of her. He's stepped up his home defense system and only the promise of food can deter him from following her around.

They also seem to find each other very interesting. In order to get a shower, I put her in her bouncy seat and sit it right outside the shower. Loki likes to come lay beside her while I shower and they spend pretty much my whole shower studying each other. The other day during this ritual, Loki left to investigate Matt's breakfast and that was the only time Tabby fussed … when her furry friend was gone.

Worth Every Penny

Don'tcha just love this photo of these two? So cute. This is when I love having a fast camera. It was a very lucky shot.

On another note, we just got a notice from the hospital about how much they billed our insurance company for delivery of our special package. $24k and change for my portion of it and $4k and change for Tabby's … so all in all, almost $30k for her delivery. Amazing, no? So worth it.

Big Day, Way Tired

What a day! We were going pretty much non-stop from morning until night. After getting up and nursing, we had just enough time to get ourselves together and head out. We went to my office and Tabby got to meet a few of my coworkers and we all had lunch with Grammy.

Then it was off to the pediatrician's office for her 2-week check-up. We waited quite a while to see the nurse, then the doctor, and later at the lab, so it was a pretty long appointment. She's almost back up to her birth weight and doing well.

After the doc's, we headed home and had a nice nap. We capped off the day with a trip to my parents's house for dinner and a bit of baby worship. Now we're home, little one's fed, and we're all about ready for bed.

Blogging with One Hand

I started this post about 10x by now, and I'm determined to get it done, even if I have to do it with one hand!! Little one is a pretty good sleeper, but she definitely prefers sleeping in our arms to any of the devices we purchased for this purpose, so for now, we're not fighting it too much.

Matt is back to work, but luckily his office is at home, so I have handed little one off to him so that I may actually finish this post in a reasonable time period. Things are going well. Breastfeeding was certainly a challenge to get going and continues to have its ups and downs, but it feels like we've finally got the hang of things (knock on wood). Sleeping isn't going too badly either so far, despite the aforementioned issue and that she doesn't really sleep on the schedule we might prefer.

She is a sweet, fairly mellow baby and we're really enjoying the heck out of her. It's hard to believe she's been here almost two weeks and just as hard to believe that she wasn't always here.
