To mark the upcoming lovey-dovey holiday, I have created a new skin for the site which is called “vwhim,” which stands for Valentines Day – Whimsical (if you must know). I may make another skin in honor of the big lovey dovey day if the mood suits me. We'll just have to see. Continue reading “Skinned!”
Dame Edna Tonight!
I've got a busy day ahead of me … work … gym … dinner … and DAME EDNA!
In case you don't know, Dame Edna is a one-man (woman??) comedy act where this guy dresses up like an old(er) lady and well … criticizes and has fun with her audiences and talks about her own life and her son Kenny (and the many friends of Kenny).
We'll be attending the show with my mom, dad, and sis who have all seen the Dame perform before. I'll have a re-cap tomorrow!
In Mind of Summer and Beaches
I must confess. I'm a bit of a fan of the Barefoot Contessa's. Sure she's a bit of a name-dropper and she says fabulous way too often, but I like looking at the pretty sandy beaches in the Hamptons. I like that she uses butter and buttermilk, but not liberally like that crazy lady from the South who practically bathes in anything fatty.
I watched a couple episodes last night while I was cleaning my office and there's definitely a lot of recipes now on my list to try:
+ Lunch in a Box (featuring Lobster Cobb Salad)
+ Working Girl (no, not hooker food … a fancy french ham sandwich)
+ Cooking with Tess (her cookbook author friend who likes healthy food)
Don't ya just love Tivo??
Thursday is the New Friday!
Well this week anyhow. With all the *everything* that I've been doing, I feel like I really need a bit of time to knock a few things off my to-do list. The hosue is a wreck and things need to be culled-through and organized. I thought I'd have some time to do that sort of stuff this week, but no, I've been unnaturally tired and going to bed at like 8 and 9 o'clock. What's up with that??
Today I feel a bit better. So hopefully after I get off work, go to the store, make dinner, and do a bit of clean-up, I'll be able to sneak in a few minutes watching TV or playing Sims 2 Night Life. Wouldn't that be nice? I also need to work on a few little projects. Like updaing my links pages on Jesser. Adding some new photos and a host of other things. I'm going to need to make a list. Barenaked for the Holidays
I will not expound on my weekend at large, because most of it was quite boring (aside from Matty coming home). The highlight was Saturday night when we went to the BareNaked Ladies Holiday Concert. My uncle and aunt had given Matt, Kelly and myself tix for Christmas presents and we got to go with them and my cousins for a very very good show. They played loads of stuff from their holiday album and plenty of the old faves and a new track that has yet to be released. Their paticular brand of witty hijinks and baudy humor were interwoven throughout the show to my great delight. One odd highlight was that we were situated so that we could see a signer signing the concert (including song's lyrics) to someone in the audience. She was really cool to watch and now I know ASL for “credit card” and “light” and a few other things.
Odd must go with BNL concerts, because the lady in front of us certainly fit the category. We can only assume that she cultivated her love of BNL from their song, Shake Your Rump (well I suppose this is less of a song than it is a spontaneous BNL concert rap) because that was all she could do all night long. Not in time with the music. Not seemingly for any specific purpose … just unbridled BNL excitment. I was a little worried she was having a seizure once or twice, but I'm glad she enjoyed the concert so much.
Also in the category of odd highlights were the laughs we got from our parking situation. Continue reading “Barenaked for the Holidays”
Celebrity Dish
In these days of TomKat and Bennifer II, who can resist a little celebrity dish, especially when it's so hilariously written that you almost pee your pants?
Check out GoFugYourself (not dirty, like the title might suggest) for all the fashion dish, including:
* this snarky comment on Jude
* poor Katie
* letters from Brit & Kevin
Loving Pink is the New Blog as well. Lotsa great celebdish here.
Perez Hilton seems to be the meanest celeb-dish-blog out there …check out their tribute to Brit on her b'day.
Much much more on Gossip Blogs.

Books Galore
As part of my 101, I made the commitment to read 11 books I've never read before. It seems kinda silly, but this is a pretty big thing for me since when I fall in love with a book, I read it over and over … in fact, I have a select set of books that I read at least once a year (helps that I read pretty fast). I'm sort of chicken when it comes to trying new books. But I did it!! And I did more than 11. Continue reading “Books Galore”
Off into the Sunset
On a whim, I decided to subscribe to Sunset. This magazine appeals to me greatly since it focuses on life in the West (PS: don't ever tell a Denverite that we live in the “midwest” … I've lived in the Midwest and Denver ain't it). That's great for us denizens of the Mile High City, since a lot of publications leave us high and dry (which is our natural state … if you've ever been here, you know what I mean).
It has sections on food, travel, home and garden all with a list towards the Western style, a more laid-back style than the east. I think it would appeal to lots of folks in the East and everywhere in between. Like their sister magazine, Cooking Light, they have a very nice online recipe database, however it can only be used by those who buy the magazine (there's a code in there somewhere).
Check it out!
PodCasting
I have to share my latest interest/obsession with you all: podcasting. I had a small sliver of my brain interested in it for a while now, slowly gathering data about it and this weekend, it finally hit critical mass. I couldn't tell you why. But I found myself on Fri night downloading iPodder and subscribing to 10 different podcasts.
What, you may ask, am I blathering about? Well, my friend, I am blathering about the latest and greatest (well prolly not, but it rhymes) form of entertainment. By now we're all aware of site feeds, little xml-formatted pages that allow aggregators to get the latest headlines from our sites (jesser.org's is here in case you want to see it). And we all know about mp3s. Basically, podcasting merges the two. Folks make podcasts, record them in mp3 format and then syndicate them using an XML feed. Podcast software allows you to subscribe to these feeds and will then download them to your computer for you when they're updated. Continue reading “PodCasting”
