Pop Quiz, Hot Shot

Q. What do you call a baseball game where you spend 7 innings in the bar, 1 inning at the game and 1 inning driving home?

A. A good time.

Yep, that's pretty how much our night went. Matt, my mom, my sister, and I were invited to the Rockies' game by our friend Mikey via one of the sub-contractors that he works with. We all gathered at Fado and had some fish and chips and some drinks. When the game was about to start, Mikey, Holly and Mikey's parents left to go enjoy their catered plush seats. We were going to go too, but the nice gentlemen hosts way-laid us and enticed us into having some more drinks. We joined them … for what ended up being more than just a few drinks (some of us more so than others … ahem) and a helluva-lotta laughs. We rolled into the game in the 7th inning and saw our Rockies' score two points on a home run.

3-Day Weekends

3-day weekends are a great idea. In theory. The thing about them is if you feel like you've got all this time, you schedule more. And then any extra time you had is gone, plus some more usually. And that, is how our weekend went. We went to a graduation party on Friday. One of the “kids” I used to babysit for graduated from high school. On Saturday, we divided our time between helping Kelly search for her new pets (2 bunnies she's picking up today) and preparing for our own graduation party (Kelly's). Sunday was still more preparation and then the party itself, plus some clean-up. Monday we recovered from the party I felt absolutely awful (despite having had nothing to drink – I think it had to do with sinuses) and spent most of the day in bed. Yesterday evening, we went to my parents house to celebrate my paternal grandmother's 92nd birthday. And that, my friends, is my weekend. Busy beyond belief and totally exhausting. But lovely and oh so much fun.

And now, I will share a new recipe or two with you that we used for desserts at Kelly's graduation party. Continue reading “3-Day Weekends”

Exhausted

It's entirely my fault, but I'm extra exhausted this week. I've had a ton going on at work, so I've been working longer hours and then staying up late because I don't want to go to bed yet. I barely get out of work mode and it's bed time again. It's so frustrating that I end up staying up later than I should. Things are starting to calm down, though and I'm looking forward to a nice weekend with Matt. Continue reading “Exhausted”

The Dumb Luck Club

Most every morning when I hit the club early to get my workout out of the way, I see a group of 3 men I've termed “The Dumb Luck Club.” They're in their late 50s or early 60s and they all look like they're doctors. I don't know why I say that. I just get that impression. Two of them look almost alike. I call them Stan and Morty. They both have salt and pepper hair, receding sharply and moustaches. The hair that they have always looks like they just stirred it with a blender. They wear boring Tshirts and shorts, but they also have sweat-bands on their wrists and heads. Stan wears just racquetball goggles, but Morty has glasses on underneath his goggles. They both have socks up to their knees. The other member of The Dumb Luck Club I call Roger. Roger looks slightly younger than the two before and he's got a full head of hair. It's wavy. His socks go just above his ankles, but he does love the gold jewelry and he has his own, more-extensive collection of sweat bands. I've seen him do the fingerpoint, wink, and click with your mouth thing when he made a paticularly good shot. Continue reading “The Dumb Luck Club”

Ouch Part Deux

Since Matt left my clumsy factor (already well above the national average normally) has seemingly increased at least 5 fold. I don't know what's going on. Here's what happened last night: I came home and wanted to wind down before bed by watching a bit of Tivo. We have an old futon mattress on the floor of the retreat where the Tivo is that I lie on to watch when I'm tired or whatever. But recently, our darling pup had been lying on it chewing his bone, so there were gross bone fragments on the futon. So I just picked up the cover and shook it to get them off, planning to vacuum them later. To aid the departure of the fragments, I started kicking the cover as well and managed to kick a bit overzealously and right into the cabinets in the retreat. OUCH! After swearing like a sailor and nearly crying like a baby, I calmed down.

I managed to run a mile on it this morning at the gym, but it's all black and blue and hurts like hell. I'm going to be taking it easy. Yeesh.

Blah Week

I have been having a sort of blah week. I'm sure most of it stems from the fact that Matt is going away for 2 weeks on business to California. I kinda like the idea of being home alone for a bit, but 2 weeks is a long time. Plus, I've got Loki to worry about. He's a ball of energy I'm not used to taking care of on my own. But it will be nice to come home to someone.

So my week has been kinda blah. I don't really feel like doing much of anything and even though Matt's going away on Sun, I don't even really feel like hanging out with him. It sucks!!

Weekend!

Okay. I'm annoyed at this whole daylight savings thing. It caused me an hour less of WEEKEND. Why couldn't it cause me to have an hour less of WEEK? That somehow seems much more fair.

My weekend was kinda boring, and not even very productive. Although I did go on a 4 mi hike on Saturday with Matt and Loki. Loki is very interested in birds and such, but fortunately not so interested that he can be bothered to chase them. But then we decided to run down the trail that we'd hiked two miles up. It didn't hurt at all at the time, but my whole body ached yesterday. And on Sunday we went to my uncle's house for a little get-together since some relatives from out-of-town were here. It was nice to see people we don't often get to see.

And for the topper on the cake, I'm all stuffed up again. I don't know if it's allergies or if my cold has reared its ugly head again. In either case, I've been quite stuffed up including one ear – not both, just one. So I'm often seen these days walking around with my head tilted in hopes that it will drain. I look like I haven't had my V8.

Life with Loki

Well, Loki has been a part of the family for 3 whole days and we must say, he's a good boy. Either he's incredibly intelligent or someone has worked with him before, because he is learning pretty quickly. He sits like a champ, knows his name, and is getting better at not jumping on people (even when he does jump, he's not rough … just excited). He's also getting better about staying in the back of the car and not lunging to the front seat every other second. Better, mind you.

We bought him a crate and he settles down after just a few minutes and goes to sleep. We took him to the vet and she said he's still teething and isn't likely to be more than 10 months old.

The funniest thing ever though was when Matt broke a jar in the kitchen and was vaccuming up some of the pieces. Loki went NUTS over the vaccum. We're not sure if he wanted to play with it or kill it, but he barked like mad at it and one point, ran away and hid from it in his crate. He likewise barks at the garage whenever we raise or lower the door. It's a pretty quiet one too.
