An Alexander Day

I'm in a bit of a strop this morning for a couple of reasons. Loki has been wearing my nerves a bit thin with his antics. The day before yesterday, he took two boxes of special K bars off the kitchen counter and ate them all up. He left the box cardboard and wrappers for me to clean up. Last night, he demolished a foam football and littered our bedroom with foam … which I also have to clean up. Even worse than Loki's little antics was the confirmation I received last night that Matty has to stay in Cali 'til Sunday morning. Usually he's back by Fri. evening from these little trips, so I'm most disappointed. I usually look forward to the weekend, but going to the store and sleeping in, not to mention more adventurous things, aren't as much fun without him. I know the day can still be salvaged, and I'll try, but I've started it out a bit grumpy.

Happy Birthday!

Today is the 26th anniversary of the day Matty was born. I can't imagine what my life would be like without him. He brings so much fun, humor and love to it. I wish him the best of everything today and all other days. I'm so lucky to have him as my best friend and husband.

He has already opened his presents from me. His dovetail jig and router kit (woodworking things for those of you not in the know) came on Friday. He's got an orbital sander on order as well.

We have a limited number of birthday plans … Matt gets a couple of his food favorites (see below) and we will celebrate more thoroughly this weekend. Continue reading “Happy Birthday!”

Special Delivery

Well, the stork was seen flying over Colorado this weekend. Our friends, Mike and Holly had their little baby boy this Saturday around 8 PM. He weighed in at 7 lbs, 6 oz, is 20.5 inches long has been named Liam. We got to see him less than 2 hours after his birth and it was hands-down one of the coolest experiences of my life. He is amazing … perfect … and so far, a very good baby. There's a great photo of us with him, but I forgot to forward it to myself at work, so it will have to wait. Very very cool.

Matt headed to Cali yesterday, but I intend to brave the snow on my own after work and go see the little cutie again. I can't wait!

At the Carwash

Yesterday evening, one of the tasks on our list to achieve was to get my car full of gas and washed (I don't know if I mentioned it, but it's been rather um… icky around here). Anyhoo, so on the way back from Best Buy, we stopped at a BP with one of the touchless car washes. We filled up, got our code and drove on in. Loki was in the back, and I briefly thought about his reaction, but then I thought to myself that we'd taken him with us through a carwash before and he'd been fine. Apparently, I was wrong.

From the minute it started up, Loki was in fine form. At first, in deference to his stupid humans who know not what they do, he tried gallantly to protect us. He barked up a storm, and no amount of cajoling from us could convince him that he was not in imminent danger. He was hopping around and barking so fiercely, Matt let him out of his car leash and let him do his thing. He'd bark madly at one side of the car, only to turn around and realize … he was surrounded.

After a few minutes, the bravado disappeared and was slowly replaced by terror. He hopped into the front seat, trying to burrow down by my feet, sort of under the dashboard and finally ended up on my lap. He wouldn't have it any other way, trembling and trying to hide his head. It was totally cute and absolutely hilarious.
