At the Carwash

Yesterday evening, one of the tasks on our list to achieve was to get my car full of gas and washed (I don't know if I mentioned it, but it's been rather um… icky around here). Anyhoo, so on the way back from Best Buy, we stopped at a BP with one of the touchless car washes. We filled up, got our code and drove on in. Loki was in the back, and I briefly thought about his reaction, but then I thought to myself that we'd taken him with us through a carwash before and he'd been fine. Apparently, I was wrong.

From the minute it started up, Loki was in fine form. At first, in deference to his stupid humans who know not what they do, he tried gallantly to protect us. He barked up a storm, and no amount of cajoling from us could convince him that he was not in imminent danger. He was hopping around and barking so fiercely, Matt let him out of his car leash and let him do his thing. He'd bark madly at one side of the car, only to turn around and realize … he was surrounded.

After a few minutes, the bravado disappeared and was slowly replaced by terror. He hopped into the front seat, trying to burrow down by my feet, sort of under the dashboard and finally ended up on my lap. He wouldn't have it any other way, trembling and trying to hide his head. It was totally cute and absolutely hilarious.
