A Lotta Nuthin!

We've been blissfully passing our time playing loads of video games, watching loads of TV (thank you Spike TV for the James Bond Marathon) and doing a little bit of Christmas shopping. It's amazing how stress free Christmas shopping can be when you do it little by little.

It's been damn cold here. It tried to snow on Friday but it didn't stick. I'm not real sad about that. I love how snow looks on the first day but it stays around way too long here and gets icky and grey. It's not real fun to walk or drive in. So no snow, but very cold. We went to eat at a middle eastern restaurant on State Street today and nearly froze or butts off getting there. Brrrrr!

We went to see Love Actually on Wednesday night. I knew it would be funny, but I was not prepared!!! I laughed so hard a few times I couldn't breathe. I hardly think anyone could dislike this movie (well I know a few people, but they're the type w/o a sense of humor). Anyhow, I want to see it again because it had tons of good one-liners. I remembered a few, but not nearly enough. We also went to see Thirteen. That was last night, I think. It was the type of movie that you're not sorry you saw, but you just don't want to see it again. Very scary … not in a horror type of way … but just in a something you'd rather not think about sort of way.

We rented Hit and Run and Price of Persia as well. Hit and Run was sort of boring. You kind of repeat the same thing over and over and over and it gets tedious. But it is a fun game, esp. if you're a Simpsons fan. POP:Sands of Time is great. We've had tons of fun playing that. I'd highly recommend it.

OK, that's my weekend rundown. Bye!

mmmm … Turkey

I love Thanksgiving. The weather is getting colder, our AC is freezing over , Thanksgiving food is always good , the new recipes we tried this year were great, and you don’t have to go to work. But the reason I like Thanksgiving the most is that is signals the start of the Christmas Season!

Giving Thanks for Thanksgiving

I've always enjoyed Thanksgiving, but now I enjoy it even more. Kelly comes to visit and we spend a week hanging out, watching movies, playing video games and board games and shopping for Christmas. It's a most excellent time.

I've got all sorts of fun things planned. We're going to rent a bunch of video games, including Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Simpsons: Hit and Run. I'm also thinking about Karaoke Revolution (the bastard sibling of Dance Dance Mix Revolution).

It's been a very nice Sunday. It's been raining since last night (a few breaks) and we've got a nice pot of soup simmering on the stove and the rain falling outside and Rush Hour is on TBS. Perfect evening.

Saturday Mornings

Matt works very hard all week, so he likes to sleep in on Saturday mornings. Since I get regular sleep, I'm always ready to go, so I do. I like to get up and eat a bit of brekkie and then have a nice workout and then a go on the computer. Early morning web surfing is the best. I seem to find all the most amusing things at that time.

This morning, I've been signing up for catalogs. I get an astonishing number of them already, but there's always room for more (forgive me, trees).

This morning, I signed up for a Sephora catalog. Of course, if you know me, that might be a bit of a head-scratcher as I wear no makeup on a daily basis and try to keep my morning routine to a paltry 15 minutes or so. But I do enjoy some of their bath sort of stuff, plus there's always gifties to be bought for my lov-ed ones.

We've got to go get haircuts today. I'm having a couple inches trimmed off the mullet (it's been growing, unchecked since April) and Matt is dying to get rid of his Einstein hair. I think his Einstein hair is very cute, but he deplores having to do anything besides washing it, so he wants a quick cut too. And, lucky for me, Oprah and Supercuts gave everyone a 50% off coupon. So guess where I'm going.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Ok, normally I would never plan a video game named after the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, but this is different. The marketing deal appears to be an after thought. The game was supposed to be released as the sequel to Sea Dogs, which itself borrowed a lot from an old Atari/PC game Pirates! What I’ve heard is that when the movie came out, they dropped the Sea Dogs name in favor of a marketing deal. The only other similarity between the Game and the Movie is the look and I’m grateful for that. The plot, game play and graphics are superb. All in all, I’d rate it a great game.

Being Good

OMG! There's a Simpson's arcade game on Ebay for like $1000. I'd LOVE to buy it, especially since the seller is within easy drive distance (N. Chicago). But there's no way I can afford it. It's one of my all-time favorite games. My family used to go to this Pizza Hut and have dinner with my grandparents and my sister and I would bum quarters off our mom and grandma to play that game. So not only is it a great game, but it also has wonderful memories associated with it. I'll get one someday.

Meanwhile, new people are moving in upstairs. They're quite loud. That apartment turns over about every 6 months. I have no idea why. Our apartment manager lived there for a while, but she doesn't anymore. During her term as our upstairs neighbor, her husband managed to flood our apartment by leaving a sink on. Smart cookie, that one. Geez.

Why I Love the Internet

I've listed a link below that sums up why I love the internet. It's the lyrics to the rap classic, “Baby Got Back” translated into Latin. This is why I'm glad Latin has never wholy died out. It's just good comedy to translate obscure, ridiculous things into the rather sanctified Latin tongue.

So without furher adieu: Baby Got Back

It's Getting to Be that Time of Year …

Well it's not even Thanksgiving yet and I'm knee deep in Christmas preparations. I've got tons of stuff to do. But I love this time of year. It's cold and you're bustling around getting things done and it's great. I like all the stuff to do and the weather and the music. Now if it would just snow! It's mid November in Wisconsin and NO SNOW! What the heck?

I think it's definitely time to make a Christmas Mix CD. What should go on it?

+ Santa Baby (Ertha Kitt or Madonna though?)
+ Little St. Nick (Muppets, definitely)
+ 12 Days of Christmas (Muppets, definitely)
+ Sleigh Ride (Harry Conick Jr. or Brian Setzer?)
+ God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Barnaked Ladies, definitely)
+ Must be Santa
+ Jingle Bell Rock
+ Silent Night (Enya)
+ Carol of the Bells (Manheim Steamroller)
+ The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (Nat King Cole)

I'll have to make a nice CD for Matt. He loves Christmas.

Martha + Jennifer = Turkey

Okay, so I'm flipping through channels today while I was working out and suddenly, Jennifer Garner (star of Alias for those of you who live in an igloo) is on my screen. It's a Tuesday and only 11 AM, so I'm (understandably) a bit confused. Then Martha shows up. Yep, Martha Stewart and Jennifer Garner. I was a bit weirded out. I watch Martha Stewart occasionally, but she gets irritating with all her dern flowers, so I can't stand too much of her, but this was actually a pretty good episode. She and Jennifer were making a very tasty-looking turkey. JG is apparently a very good cook. She also named her dog (an adorable yellow lab) Martha Stewart. Hehe. I think it's supposed to be a compliment.

I might have to make that turkey. It looked damn good.
