Hurrah for a Weekend

We've been quite busy this weekend. We went and saw Pirates of the Caribbean on Friday. I really liked that movie. We spent a lot of Saturday doing errands and working. I found some great stocking-stuffers for my family. Then we went bowling and played video games with some friends. I'm a pathetic bowler. I didn't break 100 in any of our games and I got progressively worse as the night went on. I dunno what's up with that.

Today, I'm going to do some more work, clean and I might just veg out for a few hours. That would be nice!!!!

Why I Love Star Trek

I am watching the episode of Star Trek known as “Schisms.” I don't remember what it is about, although I've seen it before. But it does contain one of my favorite Star Trek funnies. Data, the android (read: robotic human) invites everyone to his poetry reading. His ninth poem is one of his own creation: “Ode to Spot.” It's great.

“Ode to Spot”
Felis Catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature.
Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your sub-vocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents:
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counter-balance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
Oh Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array,
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend
I none-the-less consider you a true and valued friend.

HAHA!

Casa Bonita

This evening's episode of South Park features CASA BONITA!! It's this Chuck E. Cheese sort of place with (crappy, but that's not the point) Mexican food. They have a game room and cliff divers and a “scary” pirates' cave. It's campy and cheesy to the max and a way huge lotta fun.

I love it when South Park features something Coloradoey. It's excellent. More shows should take place in Denver or Colorado. By my count it's up to 3 now. There's Everwood, Mork and Mindy and South Park . Hmmm…

Smart & Lynch

I'm really glad they're OK. It's very miracley and feel-goody. It's a lot better than hearing about serial killers and embezzlers. But must we rehash and commercialize their stories with these hyped up interviews and made-for-TV movies? Not to mention that it takes away from perfectly good stuff they could be airing instead. How about we keep it to a tasteful book deal? That sounds like fun to me.

And Five Minutes Later …

I used to use my yahoo! email account all the time. But finally, it was getting so much spam that I ditched it as my primary email. But I still use it occasionally when I don't want whatever to have my primary email address. So I do have to check it every now and then to make sure it doesn't go over quota. This morning, I checked it and it had 72 messages in the bulk folder. So I dumped all of 'em. Five minutes later, LITERALLY, I had 13 more messages. Geeez. The power of Spam.

We had a very nice weekend. We had friends over on Friday and we just sort of hung out the rest of the weekend. I worked on a bunch of different things too. Mostly little Christmas gifts for various people.

And of course … work. We're always working.

Rain Rain Go Away

It's been raining for like four days straight. Not that I mind, per se. But four days is a bit much. Why even bother with the hair, eh? I'm so vain.

I was in a terribly bad mood last night. Nothing seemed to go my way … but a good long nap in my ultra-comfy bed with my ultra-comfy husband was just what I needed.

We had really good dinner last night though. Matt made the recipe listed below the day before and I cooked it for dinner last night with a bitta rice. It was really good. I made some beer-cheese bread too but it came out very dense and didn't rise properly. But I think I used the wrong sort of yeast (who knew there were so many types?). That was rather bothersome. It took so long to make it … all that rising and all.

Time to work work work. Blah.

No Way!

I can't believe it's already November. Madison has yet to see snow, although it was threatening yesterday. Today it just looks vaguely icky out (cold, overcast) but not like it might start raining down flakes at any moment.

Today is the last day of the farmers' market, so we should really go, but Matt hasn't even made it out of bed yet and it's cold!

We're going to go get SUSHI tonight. Yum! Hopefully this place will be good. We had skads of good sushi restaurants back in Nashville, and we've found a couple here, but they've been either overpriced or icky. And as I think this is the last one in the city to try … I'm really hoping it's good.

We also get to do the ultra-fun task of cleaning! Yes, folks, it's time to drag out the vacuum and act like we're not slobs. At least I get to use my lovely new wireless headphones to listen to music or TV while I work though.
