'Bout That Time

Honestly, I'm pretty good at math, but I was a bit surprised when I realized that today I'm heading into my 7th month of pregnancy, not my 6th. Today is also the start of 3rd trimester (at least as some authorities calculate it). Though by how far Matt and I are into planning for little one's arrival, you'd think the stick just turned pink.

Truth be told, I've been thinking about the nursery quite a bit … and though I doubt we'll probably put much of this into action until January, here's the sort of plan. The room that little one will be in is our current guest room. It's a pretty nicely sized room with a balcony (lucky kid) and a closet on opposite sides of the room. Currently it's painted some variety of taupe with dark maple crown molding and oatmealish carpet (which is throughout the whole house). In other words, a nice blank slate.

The purple color up there is our paint color choice (or something similar). I'm still not clear if we'll do all the walls in that color or not. We're planning to use blonde/natural furniture because it will look nice with our molding and doors and it will go with either gender well. The crib is a for-sure, since my parents already bought it for us, but accent pieces are a blank so far. We have a hand-me-down glider and Matt is making a side-table with some curvy edges to go beside it. He'd like to make the dresser/changing table as well, but it would be a very complicated piece and time is somewhat limited. The dresser shown there is a top contender if time becomes a factor. We plan to use the dresser as a changing table. I don't want to overwhelm the room with furniture.

In addition to the pieces mentioned, I have designed a bookcase that looks a bit like a treehouse (hard to describe, if it works I'm sure I'll post photos) and we also have a set of shelves my dad built for me when I was a kid that we plan to repaint put in the closet for storage in there. It holds little baskets/bins real well which will be good for toys, socks, shoes, etc.

As far as decoration goes, we've got a few projects to take on for that … I saw lampshades made with cocktail umbrellas on Martha one day that are amazing and I want to do at least a floor lamp for beside the glider and maybe one or two other lamps. My mom and sister also brought me back a fabulous Japanese craftbook from San Fran that featured temari, Japanese string balls, that I think are absolutely beautiful. I'd like to make a few of these and hang them over the crib and/or changing table. I'd also like to buy some wooden letters to spell her name from CraftCuts and decoupage them with magazine cut-outs (hopefully they'd be suitable for any age). Lastly, we want to make a narrow shelf (8 inches deep?) painted that green color (our accent color) that will run high around the room and display some decorative toys.

Bedding and other necessities will be bright fun colors leaning to the girly side. There will also need to be some new drapes in there and I have no idea what those are going to look like. Window treatments seriously bore me.

  1. I LOVE the colors you've chosen! The lamp is the coolest. Who knew? Mawtha of course ;0)

Get trucking on bringing it together girl…be here before ya know it!

  2. I love the plan! That dresser is really cool – I love it's clean lines. And I love lurking around the CutCraft site, even though they don't seem to ship to Canada.
