What We're Up To

It's a cold grey day here in the Mile-High city, which is logical since we had highs yesterday in the low 80s.

We haven't been up to a whole lot, just working and such. I picked up the audio version of Freakonomics from our library last week and Matt and I both enjoyed it immensely. Basically a couple of economists use economic methods to answer bizarre questions. They cover various topics from teachers cheating on standardized tests to the business model for an urban drug gang. The answers are frequently pretty surprising. A good book to check out.

We've also been on a crock-pot kick at home. It's the perfect time of year for the crock pot and it's a nice thing to have your meal mostly made by the time you get home from work. We picked up Fix-It and Forget-It Lightly and we've made two great recipes from it so far – one for roast turkey breast with orange cranberry sauce and one for beef stroganoff. Both turned out quite well. I'll try to remember to post the recipes at some point.

I spent part of last night playing around with Microsoft Photo Story 3 (which you can download here). Basically what it does is create a photo slide show and turn it into a wmv film. It's pretty simple but does some pretty nice effects. You can do narration (possibly for your travel photos?) and include music. I did one of Loki photos last night to the peanuts theme. It was pretty cute. Anyhow, we're planning to create a photo slideshow for my grandma's memorial service so I think we'll use that.

  1. Your post is full of such good info.

I took an economy class once and it was a lot more interesting than I imagined. So I think that book seems pretty neat.

Those two crock pot books seem pretty nifty too cause I am having a hard time finding anything on lline for free crock pot recipes. Heh heh. I am on a bit of an amzon strike at the moment so it will have to wait. They lost one of my orders. Grrr.

I have to look into Microsoft Photo Story.

  2. I found you thru frenchtoast girl. Thanks for the Crcokpot book idea. I like using mine but only have a couple of recipes. You can also try Kraftfoods.com they usually have good ideas.Congratulations on the baby, may you have a healthy happy pregnancy. I have been humming and hahing about the Holiday magazine but I snowed last night and so it really is beginning to feel like Christmas – my most favorite of the year. I just might have to buy it.

  3. Christmas Idea – I belong to a rubber stamp group and next week we are decorating a paint can to but presents or treats in. You need a couple of 12 x 12 sheets of scrapbook paper and trim, stickers etc. Cut the paper so that you have a 1/3 and 2/3 pieces attach with double sided tape and add embellishments. You can decorate the lid if you want, add some tissue paper and raffia and a tag. The one she showed us was amazing. A cute idea for giving baking or gift. You can pick up the empty paint can from home depot etc. for about $3. Good Luck if you decide to try.
