STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — A Littleton man said he lost control in an alleged “ski rage” attack on a 16-year-old girl on the slopes at Steamboat Ski Area.
Randell Berg, 52, allegedly punched the girl in the head and neck and yelled profanities after she collided with his 8-year-old daughter on Sunday, police Capt. Joel Rae said.
The Steamboat Springs teenager was snowboarding near the base of the mountain when she ran over the skis of the eight-year-old, knocking both girls to the ground, Rae said.
Berg told police that after he made sure his daughter was OK, “he just lost control when his daughter got hit,” Rae said.
Rae, noting he had never heard of such an incident, said: “We have fights all the time, but this is ridiculous.”
The teenager was not seriously injured by the alleged attack, but she told police she was sore.
Berg was taken to Routt County Jail where he was booked on charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was released Monday on $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Valentine's Day.
