Long Weekend

I took Friday off for a “mental health” day. A memorial service was held in the afternoon for Michelle. I won't go into what it was like, since I don't want to invade her family's privacy, but it was very very sad … heart wrenching. My sis and I were both crying like crazy … there was nary a dry eye in the house. This is likely the last I'll say about it … it's just too hard to talk about.

Friday evening, we went over to my parents' house for a very nice dinner (salmon!) and a fun game of Phase 10.Saturday, Matt and I spent most of the day working around the house … cleaning, etc. I worked on painting the army case that I got from the flea market, too and Matt and I wrestled with our POS oribital sander, trying to sand the end tables we got there. The end tables are still partially (read mostly not) sanded, but my case is done and all of our garage pantry shelves are finished. And the house is clean …er. I'll post pics of the case tomorrow or Wed.

Sat evening, we had Mike and Holly over for dinner (in pajamas) to try out a new recipe we'd seen Jamie Oliver doing on Martha Stewart's new show. It's linked below … after a few false starts making our own pasta for the first time, we deemed the recipe a rousing success and have decided we must cook it again, soon.

Sunday, we cleaned up and got Matty packed to go to Cali and then went to see Holly with the intention of working in her yard, but we couldn't get the roto-tiller to work and so we took the puppies for a walk, had lunch, and went shopping for cribs.

We dropped Matty off at the airport shuttle and I went home to watch a little TV, take a hot bath, and read a new book I got from the library. A nice evening.

  1. ani: yep! most of the metro area got SOME snow, but I live in the northwest suburbs, so we got off easy … barely a dusting. some of my coworkers got much more … up to 2 feet in some places. glad it wasn't me.
