Yea!

I'm doing better and better at racquetball. I'm even enjoying myself now instead of being fairly frustrated that I keep LOSING. I'm still losing, but not as frequently and I am keeping most serves going for longer and longer. I came this close tonight (imagine me holding my fingers about 1 cm apart) to actually beating Matt in the overall match.

Gilmore Girls was really funny tonight. I loved the thing with Luke going to jail. I've got a tape of Queer Eye to watch too. That should be good.

Right now though, I'm finishing off our taxes. My very kind father did our taxes for us, so we've got to fill in some lines on the state ones and I've got to address 'em and stamp 'em and stuff. Fun fun.

Disgusting

Matt got ahold of the remote and turned The Swan on. In case you don't know, the premise of this whole show is that they take “ugly ducklings” and give them intensive makeovers (surgery, intensive therapy, 3 months of 1200 calorie diets and exercise).

Here's my issue … they don't makeover ugly ducklings. They make over normal looking girls with really bad self esteem. These girls just come out looking incredibly fake and plasticized. It seems really horrible to me that these poor girls have had their self-esteem absolutely marginalized by the people around them and the world at large around them. They need a bracing reality check far more than they need an intensive makeover.

These women (at least the two that are on tonight) have had kids!!! For god's sake. You're not going to look like you're 16 any more. GIVE IT UP.

Now I'm going to go settle down.

Happy Easter!

Matt and I took a few minutes out of the last hours of Easter to engage in one of our favorite traditions … the ritual enlargement of Just Born Brand Peeps marshmallow candies. We ceremoniously loaded a couple on a plate (covered with a paper towel for the plate's protection) and loaded said plate into the microwave. Then we carefully punched in 1 minute on the microwave's time clock. I closed the door. We took a moment of silence and then … Start! Above are the results (with a control subject for comparison).

Always worth 98 cents, no?

Music

Much like the news, I can't stand the radio. There's always some idiot DJs filling the air with their self-important jabber and frequently the music is repetitive and dull. So where does a girl get exposed to new and different and good music.

Well sadly, it's from TV! I've been garnering all of my new music finds lately from TV shows and commercials. And the excellent fan sites are kind enough to do play lists from the shows.

Music from The OC
Music from Gilmore Girls
Music from Malcolm in the Middle
Music from Alias
Also, if you ever wanted to know what that song is from that commercial (they do TV shows too though), visit AdTunes.com

Saturday

Matt and I have had a nice Saturday thus far. We spent a couple of hours at the gym (treadmill, racquetball, eucalyptus steam-room), did some shopping for some up-coming gift-giving events and of course, some errands. Groceries do need to be bought on a weekly basis … bah.

Now we're at home … working on our respective computers. I've got tooo too much work to do. That's cool though. I actually kinda like working. Plus, it's Saturday, so of course, there's good TV on. I watched a great episode of Queer Eye where they got rid of the dude's mullet. Excellent! Now I'm watching The Whole Nine Yards since I hadn't seen it before and the folks on CBS are good enough to be showing it. It's kinda funny so far.

I'm missing being home right now, since Easter's tomorrow. I've always enjoyed it. We've always had a good egg-hunt in our family, but I haven't gotten to do it in a few years. But I sent home some nice Kinder-Surprise Eggs for my lil' cousins. They're choccy eggs with a little toy inside. I picked 'em up while I was in France. You can't get them here because the FDA has some silly rule about non-edible things being in edible things.

Gimme a Break!

I'm taking a break from cleaning, since I'm sneezing my head off. So I decided to take one of those “which … are you?” quizzes. And since I'm watching DS9, it had to be a which DS9 character are you quiz.

Little surprise, I'm ….

Nerdy nerd nerd nerd! Nerdy nerdy nerd nerd! Ha ha ha!

The Good and the Annoying

The Annoying
+ Two bowls of the same size sticking together because you put them away wet/hot
+ Not being able to find the proper adapter to plug your wireless headphones receiver into the TV
+ Matt going away on business for 3 days
+ cleaning the house
+ consistently losing to Matt at racquetball
+ Matt working 'til 5 tonight even though he has a half day

The Good
+ managing to get them apart without breaking them by using something you learned in physics class (?!?!)
+ a Star Trek DS9 marathon to watch whether or not you've got your wireless headphones (hey, I can vacuum during commercials!)
+ Matt coming home after three days away on business
+ having a clean house
+ losing by progressively smaller margins to Matt
+ Matt gets a half day of comp time so we don't have to drive all night to get to Nashville when his sister graduates in May

Life is all about perception.

The Search for a Gym Bag

I'm trying to find a new gym bag. You know, one that will actually hold everything I need so I don't accidently leave my running shoes by the door when I leave. But man is it frustrating.

I want something that's stylish and has good pockets and is waterproof and is a good color and is the right size and it'd be just peachy if it's under $50 since that's the amount of Christmas money (yes, I nerdily save my Christmas money for things like this …) I've got left.

Anyhow, I checked a few of the big boxes yeterday. The new Galyans by us had the best selection, but nothing that really suited me. And I also checked the huge selections at Amazon and Ebags. But nothing there worked either.

Now I'm looking at Nike. Their websites scare me. Everyone on their is strangely intense. Like little children will be murdered if they don't run the mile in 4 minutes. They've also gone all “stylish” with they're stuff. But it ain't my style. It's just … weird. No no, Nike. I don't want a gym bag that looks like a bowling bag. I don't want a gym bag that's a rolling suitcase (what the heck??). I don't want one that's all squarish. I don't want one that's black!! Well I guess black's OK, but not if it has your stupid huge logo all over it!!

Adidas.com … useless! Reebok.com …. What the heck is that Kylie Minogue look alike doing on their front page? Kylie Minogue or not … doesn't even sell bags online!

I've just had a brainstorm. My mom sent me a Title 9 Catalog. I should check their website. They've got six bags. None of which I'd be embarassed to carry, in fact, some of them are quite cute. OOh! I really like that one. Not to big, not too small. And it comes in black AND purple. A bit expensive, but not in comparison to the other's I've seen ($90 to advertise for Nike. I think not!). Have I found it??? Yep. That's it.

War Over??

What the heck is going on? Am I the only one who can see that the war ain't over? Who the heck declared it over? The news media? (Best Dr. Nick Voice: ) I'm so sick of those guys. Every day we've got like 10 reports of people being blown up. It's all very depressing. Even I (and I don't watch the news) can't escape seeing it. I might buy that we've achieved an objective over there. But there's a war still going on.

Anyway, I'll stop that. I don't like to include politicky things here because it causes dissent and contention and my blog is a happy place. But I guess I just don't want to forget that we've got lots of people over there who are risking their lives for the rest of us.

Anyhow. I've been very busy latley. Matt and I finally bit the bullet and joined a health club. Mainly because we want to play racquetball again. We played quite a bit in college and I know we've both missed it. Anyway, a new club around here was giving out some good good rates and their terms worked v. well for us, so we joined up on Monday. We've been playing lots of racquetball. I'm getting better, I think. Matt has beaten me in 4 of 5 games. But I did win one!!

BTW: The women on the view annoy me. Ever heard that saying that the most brilliant people don't say much? Yea, well I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
