To Do List

The vague future always seems like a good time to travel. The reality is that we’re always busy and no matter when I schedule a trip, I’m likely going to be manically trying to get everything done right up until we head out. I/We need to:

  • decorate the house for Halloween (Tabby is dying to do this)
  • register Tabby for another session of rock climbing
  • register Ben for something where he can run around a lot and burn off energy
  • make and package 20 bags of orange, pumpkin pie scented playdough
  • make and package 20 ghost-shaped rice krispie treats
  • load an MP3 player with Halloween music for “musical chairs”
  • return several books to the library
  • take a few phones to visit the Geniuses at the Apple Store
  • pack us up for our trip
  • pack up baby clothes to take to Nashville
  • take Loki to our friends’ house
  • figure out who/what to vote for
  • vote!
  • attend a few Halloween parties (4)
  • myriad work-related things such as taking a phone to the Apple Store, spending a whole day with our new web designers and before that getting all of my thoughts on the site into some coherent tangible form, turning in various reports on this and that, selling my soul to get a few extra iPhone 5 cables, etc.
  • pay bills, update budget and all that crap
  • clean up our house
  • buy Ben some new shoes
  • figure out an appropriately awesome b’day gift for my niece
  • get haircuts
  • make sure we have appropriate clothes for the family photo we’ll be taking on our trip
  • stop the mail
  • check in with the kids’ schools about absences
  • check in with our neighbors about minding the house
  • make a car rental reservation

Then we’ll need to buckle down and enjoy our vacation!

Another Busy Weekend

Thursday, midday, we were surprised to learn that Ben’s 24 hr strep test had come back POSITIVE. So he had to come home and stay home for 24 hours until antibiotics took effect. So Friday I got to spend the day with my baby boy while he recuperated. We ran some errands, had lunch with Daddy and Grammy, had a nap and a run and went to pick up Tabby. Friday evening, I had Bunco and Matt took the kids to get Ben a haircut.

Saturday morning, I took off to the mountains for an abbreviated Girls’ Weekend with some of my besties. We relaxed, had lunch, had a walk, relaxed some more, had some cocktails, and went to dinner. That’s when the fun started. At dinner, the fire alarm went off and the Vail fire fighters showed up … the very same fire department that one Ryan Sutter is a part of. One of my girlfriends is a huge Ryan Sutter fan and she was lucky enough to have an encounter with him in the lobby of the restaurant.

After the heart-palpitation inducing event and dinner, we went out on the town for some drinks and dancing. We always have a great time burning off steam and gettin jiggy with it (am I showing my age??). We got in super late and slept really well. In the morning, we had a leisurely morning and headed home, for once avoiding I-70 traffic.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Matt took the kids birthday shopping, had an evening out with the other husbands and spent Sunday morning at a birthday party. By the time I got home, the kids had to go down for naps and we had a nap too. By the time we got up, we had just enough time to start Tabby’s school project (she gets to tell all about herself on the All About Me board this week). Then we had dinner with my parents and came back home to finish up Tabby’s project and head to bed.

Phew! Think I need another weekend to rest!

Adieu to Camping

After a crazy week, we set off on Thursday night for our final round of camping for the season – at Mueller State Park. Of course we got going late, but luckily the camping spot was only a couple of hours away and even with some stops, we made pretty good time. We couldn’t tell for sure, but it looked like we’d still get to see most of the pretty fall color. Despite the chilly weather, we were snug and warm in our camper!

The next morning, we made some pancakes and then started driving around to check out the scenery we’d missed in the dark. We drove through town and were immediately sidetracked by a dinosaur museum and spent the next couple of hours there, doing everything dino. The museum is primarily a working dinosaur lab and they have sent dino skeletons all over the world. The kids were enthralled by their specimens and our bizarre tour guide. Bidding Summer Adieu

We bid summer adieu with a trip to my uncle and aunt’s lake house. They graciously hosted our family and our friends for a fun-filled weekend of outdoorsy pursuits.

We hiked. We boated. We played pirates.

We (Ben) ran through the sprinklers.

We chilled with friends. We had Oh.So.Much.FUN!!

Now we begin the countdown to school. Haircuts. Teacher meet-and-greet. Dentists appointments. And a weekend visit from 2/3 of the Nashville grandparents.

Did you miss me??

So … did ya miss me? I took an unexpected but pretty necessary blogging hiatus for a while there. And it was awesome. See we got a chance to extend our weekend away by a couple of days and we jumped at it. JUMPED. So we headed for the hills and we proceeded to do a lot of nothing. Camping in RMNP

We spent last weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park, home of breathtaking views of the Rockies and some truly amazing trails and wildlife.

And for a few days … our campers. We stayed at Aspen Glen Campground. I swear to you, Matt has some sort of genius for picking great campgrounds. This one compared to some of the others wasn’t quite AS amazing, but in RMNP, the pickings are slim because it’s so popular. Continue reading “Camping in RMNP”

My Poor Neglected Blog

We just got back from our camping trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. I have to say this was about the hardest camping trip I’ve ever been on, not that it wasn’t great fun – it was – but we were all sick. Sleep wasn’t great. Heads were stuffed. Ben kept waking up with a bloody nose. We got back later than I wanted and we’re exhausted. EXHAUSTED.

Still no rest for the wicked. Back to work tomorrow. Evening out tomorrow night. Tons to do before the parties on Weds & Thurs. I don’t even want to think about it. Full weekend update hopefully tomorrow. Kids had a great time even if they were sick. Cheers!

Camping at Turquoise Lake

Our second camping foray for the season was a decided success. We left Denver around 2 on Friday and were at the site around 4:30. When we pulled up we could hardly believe our eyes. We had a giant parking-lot sized place to put our campers and then down the hill, we had a ton of picnic tables, grills, fire pits and lots and lots of woods for the kids to roam around in.  The campsite was remarkably secluded and the bathrooms were right along our site as well as drinking water taps. The woods the kids played in were hemmed in by a road but the road was up a somewhat steep embankment so not easy to wander on to. And the lake was just a half mile away.
