Ch .. ch … ch … changes

Well … tomorrow I'm starting my new job. I'm going to be working for my mom's company (the business my grandpa started oh-so-many-years ago) doing a variety of things. Until the new year, I'll be working in the training/education/safety department working on new tracking methods and forms to keep things running smoothly. In the new year, I'll be working on some warranty work as well. I'm super-super excited to be working within the family biz and I'm really excited to be doing the work I'm doing. It's going to be so exciting.

And in other news, I acquired a new cell phone today. It's a kickass camera phone and so in the near future, I may have some sort of a MoBlog. I'll have to work on that. Continue reading “Ch .. ch … ch … changes”

Desert Girl

CO is in the midst of a GLORIOUS fall. And I don't use the term glorious lightly. And looking around you prolly wouldn't think “desert” automatically. But that's sure what it feels like to my skin.

After being gone for six years, I think my skin and I had forgotten just what this climate can be like. And we're both in a bit of shock. I'm currently using about 6 different products on various parts of my person trying to stave off dry, itchy, flaky skin. I've got stuff for my eyes, my hands, my lips, my face, my feet, and the rest of me. And of course, I'm drinking tons of water. But I still feel like I'm not getting enough hydration. Maybe I should switch to Gatorade? Thoughts?

But I must say, the super-dry climate is a small small price to pay for weather like this. In WI it would already be freeeezing cold in the mornings and not much nicer during the day. I don't miss that.

What I've Been Up To

WOoo! It's been a long time. I am going to try my hardest to get back to writing on a daily basis. And reading on a daily basis … that computer stuff really put me out of the habit of doing blog stuff on a daily basis. Anyhoooo

We had a great weeekend. On Friday we got to have my cousins over to stay with us while their parents were busy and we got to celebrate Ryan's B'day (very belatedly) by going to a hibachi grill and then playing two hours of laser tag. Laser tag was super-fun because we were the only people there for the last 3 or 4 games we played and we could break all of the rules and shout and run and carry on. We had a great time. We also spent scads of time playing DDRMax both on our PS2 and at the arcade that was attached to the laser tag place. Continue reading “What I've Been Up To”

Time to Eat the Donut

So on Monday night (11 ish) Matt and I ran down to the Conoco to get some Krispy Kremes. Just three. That's it. But the manager came over to us and told us to take what was left. I was going to refuse, but Matt spoke first … Anyhoo, we got to talking to her and she said she wanted to do a good deed. She was going in for major surgery the next day.

Anyhoo, thanks to her, we ended up with 97 donut. That's right folks … 8 dozen and a spare (though the spare was gone before we got home). Long story short … I don't think I really want to see a Krispy Kreme donut for a long time (and I've only had 3 of them … hehe). So she did me a huge favor. The idea of Krispy Kreme now disgusts me.

PS. I was going to add a picture, but I seem to have misplaced my digital camera cord … bother.

Happy B'day Dan

Dan (right) turns 25 today! Dan is in his third year at Tulane Law School, a Virgo, staunch Republican and, ladies, he's still single. He enjoys skiing, drinking, watching CNN, reading thick law journals, writing business plans, and of course, reading Jesser.Org. Hope your b'day is a great one. You deserve it.

Be Vewwy Quiet … I'm Hunting Houses!

House huntin' is going pretty well. We've been shoppin' properties all over this great city and it's been pretty fun. It's hard though, because our critera aren't really the sort of thing that you can type into a search-engine. I guess it's the sort of thing that we'll “know it when we see it.”

We might have seen it today. We saw a really cool house built in 1939 that has lots of charm and personality and really good overall space. I'd post a link to it … but y'know internet anonymity and all.

If it becomes more of a reality, we'll be posting pics and descriptions galore, y'know.

Booties!

Back in the apartment, May rarely had trouble getting up (unless she was in the sun room where there was a tile floor). Well now that she's at my parents' house, she's been having a bit of a problem making it from lying down to standing up since most of the floors that she is on are wood, and pretty slippery for an old doggie.

So this morning, Matt and I went to Petsmart and found these booties on the clearance. Technically, they're to keep a puppie's paws from getting too much ice in them in the winter, so they were cheap from last season. Well we brought them home to try … and they worked!! May can get up without assistance and she is walking much better. Yea!!

We're Here!

Well we made it! Overall, everything went very well. We got a truck that was 5' longer than we had ordered (darn good thing too) and two days earlier than we had set it up for (also a darn darn good thing) … and after two days straight of loading, then a day of cleaning, my dad packed off to CO with the truck. Amazing guy that he is, he drove straight through. We left later that day once Matt had finished work and drove to Stuard, Iowa, which is just west of Des Moines. Then yesterday we got up and drove the rest of the way.

It was an amazing sight to behold as we drove into Denver from Nebraska. CO, usually kinda brown in August, has seen so much moisture that it is gloriously green and lush. We had a beautiful sunset as well. Nice homecoming.

An even nicer homecoming were the people who turned up this morning to help us unload the truck. With all of their great help, we finished it off in about an hour and a half!! Amazing.

Matt and I are still getting settled in. We need to set up his computer and bring over some more creature comforts, but this is going to work quite nicely until we get our house. And it's so good to see everyone!!

May is doing pretty well too. She got the apartment all to herself at night once we had loaded our bed in the truck and went to stay with my parents at the hotel, and she hasn't freaked out too badly. On the last day, when there was no place for her to stay, she settled into my car and stayed there the rest of the trip. But she did get to get out occasionally and sit on the sidewalk with us while we dined at Panera, Sonic, and Culvers. She even got her own burger a couple of times.

Bye-Bye Dairy-Cow-A-Gogo-Land!!!

Well, the time has come for us to bid Madison, WI a fond farewell. It will always be our first home together. We've had lots of fun here and a smidgen of sadness too. While there's no doubt we will not be missing the cold weather, there are many aspects of life here that we will miss.

So, to top off our Madison Experience, here's the top 10 things we will miss in Madison:
10. Brat Fest
9. Princeton Club
8. Brennan's Market
7. State Street
6. great bike paths
5. being close to Chicago & Milwaukee
4. Biaggi's
3. Frugal Muse!
2. Dane Co. Farmer's Market

Fun With Boxes

After getting her toes trompled on, May found a nice spot to rest.

Our apt is a mess! We've got stuff strewn alllll over the place. It's pretty much non-functional for anything except eating, bathing, doing laundry, and sleeeeping. We can't cook or watch TV and internet will soon be gone!

We're having fun though, sorta. We're listening to music and chatting and looking forward to the future.

PS:If you haven't left a comment for my Rollcall entry, please do!!
