Rarebit Risotto

For dinner last night, we broke out the new cookbook Kelly gave me for Christmas, Moosewood Restaurant's Simple Suppers. I'm a long-time fan of Moosewood Restaurant's cookbooks … they're the ones who taught me how to make streudel and I think they can convince just about anyone that veggies are delicious.

We tried out their rarebit risotto … a traditional risotto flavored with beer and cheddar for a very very yummy if slightly unusual flavor (for risotto). Try it out! Connie requested that I relate the story of picking up the dresser. This may be one of those “you had to be there” stories, but here goes … hehe. So we head out to the industrial section of Denver … extremely cold night, sketchier section of town. So we find where we're supposed to be and turn into the road … and notice a pickup off to the left. Suddenly a security guard emerges and flags us down. As she approaches the car we realize 1) she's a SHE and 2) she's about 70 years old. And this ain't your grandma.

Brusque, curt, fairly grumpy, she demands to see our papers and takes down the make, model (what kinda car is this??) and license number of our car and finally lets us go. As we drive on down to the loading dock, Matt says to me “Do you get the feeling we just got the shake down from someone's grandma.” We had a good laugh of them.
