The Haps

  • It has been the longest short week ever. The kids have been over tired, sick and generally grumpy. The courses of antibiotics are just about over with and I think they’re on the mend, but the sleep has been sketchy and patchy and we’re all pretty over-tired.
  • At Christmas we ordered Tabby a bike. It was damaged when we tried to assemble it on Christmas Eve and we ended up giving her a scooter we’d picked up during a Christmas sale instead (or Santa did? I can’t remember now). We decided to save the replacement bike for her birthday. Unfortunately, when Matt went to assemble it yesterday (yea, I know, procrastination!), it was no better than the first one.
  • As a result of the bike situation, we drove into the city last night to pick up this little Craiglist find, a gently used Girls’ Trek for just $50. It was originally $200 so we’re pretty darn happy with it.

  • Tabby had her second skating lesson last night. She is doing really well … she’s one of the older kids in the class, so it’s not too surprising that she’s doing well as it’s geared towards younger kids. Unfortunately, about 10 minutes into class, she took a nasty fall and scraped up her cheek really good. Between the pain and her general exhausted/recovering sickie state, she melted down pretty good. A Hello Kitty Bandaid went a long way to mending her spirit.
  • As a side note, how heart-breakingly grownup does she look in that photo??? She’s FIVE on Sunday. Mama’s not ready for her to be such a big girl so fast.
  • Of course we have big plans for her b’day. She wants to go to The Butterfly Pavilion and then have dinner with the family. She’s requested STEAK and mashed sweet potatoes and then dirt dessert. There may be a few presents as well.
  • I have been slacking majorly on the workouts, but I did go to the gym both yesterday and today and I did a treadmill workout on Tuesday. I did HIIT (high-intensity interval training) for 30 minutes and it kicked my butt something fierce – I am glad I did it and want to start doing it once a week. I will probably not make my long run this weekend either. We have a barbell clinic at the gym on Sunday morning and I have to be there by 9 … I’m hoping for 5-6 miles before hand, but that’s probably as good as it gonna get.
  • My little guy has been super out of sorts. Despite that we see a noticeable improvement after he has has Tylenol, he wants no part of it and we either have to spike his sippy cup or force it in him. But what he does want is to have a shower, or actually SHOWERS. Many per day. At his worst, he was sitting in the bottom of the shower, head hanging. Now he’s standing and playing again. Yay!
  • Matt and I are having a date on Friday. We’ve got a little this and that to do on a couple of projects, but we’re planning to have a nice dinner and perhaps a Netflix Marathon of some sort.

  1. That is such a pain filled yet lovely pic. Glad Tabby is OK and Ben is getting better. Tabby’s birthday weekend plans sound swell. So does her new bike!
