Roam if You Want to, Roam Around the World

We really love to travel. I love all types of vacations … the ones where you sit around and just relax and the action-packed ones where there’s tons of things to see and do and taste.

But that was before we had kids. Honestly, it’s a pain in the butt nowadays. Not that I don’t enjoy vacations, it’s just the getting ready and getting there. Even when I try my hardest, there’s still a ton of stuff to lug around. Car trips are marginally better stuff wise, since I don’t have to transfer it 3 or 4 times, but that’s probably trumped by the travel itself. Little kids + long hours in the car = whine.

Still, we travel quite a lot. Two or three larger (usually plane) trips a year and then plenty of little forays near home. This year we went to Nashville in April and we are going to California in September. We’ve been to Vail to ski and sun a few times as well. And there will be more of that. Travel is one of the reasons I work. It’s super important to us to be able to travel as a family for many many reasons.

But for now, we will probably stay mostly stateside. But in the distantish future, we want to take the kids abroad and let them see the world. Some places/things we want to see: Stateside
• Austin, TX
• Disney World (maybe we can run the marathon!)
• New York City (Tabby has elaborate fantasy scenarios about her life here – yea, I don’t know either)
• Pacific Northwest – Seattle/Portland
• Yellowstone
• MakerFaire (probably San Francisco)
• ski in Heavenly
• Acadia National Park (in Maine)
• rent a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN (Great Smokies region)
• Savannah, GA
• Cape Code or another beachy place on the East Coast (Outer Banks, NC??)
• Utah’s national parks (Arches, etc.)
• Hawaii again
• Alaska (possibly via cruise)
• New England
• Chicago

Abroad
• hike Macchu Picchu
• Great Britain
• France
• Japan (so I can take photos of vending machines if nothing else)
• Australia/NZ
• Mexico (not boozy spring break Mexico, I’m talkin’ ’bout Aztec-ruins Mexico)
• Italy … a food tour, primarily, though wine too
• Bora Bora
• Greece … particularly Corfu, though ruins would be cool took
• Egypt
• India (again.with.the.food!)
• Thailand

  1. Wow, you have a lot of places you want to visit! The only place I really want to go to sometime in my life is Paris. And I'm terrified of planes, so I'm not sure how that would work.

  2. We still have to travel just to visit family, but I too really want to start doing some overseas travel. I've never left the US before. But it'll be a few years before we can travel internationally.

Where in Cali are you visiting in September? Let me know if you're in my neck of the woods!
