Chilly Monday

After a chilly weekend, it is a chilly Monday. I am wearing a sweater at the office and I'm particularly glad for that. We had a nice weekend, though … pretty typical. Saw my family, ran errands, went to the gym, did housework and hung out at home. It was quieter than many. Very nice.

Of course, we bought food for the week … lemon chicken fingers and butternut squash, fried rice, spaghetti (with squash and mushrooms), clam chowder. The kids have colds and slept quite a bit. I played Farm Frenzy 3 (a great use of my time, I know) and got caught up on The Office and Top Ceviche and Project Runway.

My “smart” phone is dying. It will randomly decide to download ALL (as in all 2000+) of my Yahoo! messages and completely bog down my phone. The fix for this involves an hour long deleting process and adding the account again. Lovely. At least the smart phones are getting cheaper … I can probably get the one I want (when I figure out which one that is) for under $200.

I just signed Matt and I up for a 4 mile Turkey Trot. Hope he still wants to be married to me when he finds out.

We have officially moved Ben out of the infant carrier. It is better for lifting, but its own irritating situation since it's much harder to move him while sleeping and also to maneuver him around in a restaurant or store since he is only kinda sitting up just yet. But he can hold his bottle … well. That kid has his priorities straight.

Bad Blogger

I can't seem to keep up with the blog right now. Bullet quicklike:

• stayed home from work yesterday to nap and perhaps get rid of my cold
• mostly napped, may have played some computer games in between naps
• also may have gotten caught up on Top Chef, or as we're calling it this season, Top Ceviche
• feel about 100% better this morning than I did yesterday morning
• weather has turned cold
• supposed to snow this weekend
• only good thing about snow: skiing
• made an apfel struedel last night … and spreched a little Deutsch
• Tabby cracked us up regularly last night and then told us not to laugh
• did meal train (pumpkin pasta again) for a friend of mine who has a 2 month old baby, had gallbladder surgery and broke her arm – yikes!
• would very much like to be fireside with a nice cup of tea … but at least I can have the tea and sit near my space heater

Happy Thursday

Menus and More

Ah. The start of another busy week. I am in the midst of trying to stave off a cold by my formula of vitamins, sleep, water and workout. We'll see how that goes since the most important element, sleep, is a precious commodity at our house.

The kids are cute and doing well. Tabby seems to have settled on ballerina for a Halloween costume. I hope Ben will be a pirate for me some day. The great part about Tabby's costume is that we already have most of it for her dance class. I'm going to tie up her hair in a bun and lace up some pink satin ribbon around her little legs for the full effect. I'm sure it'll be cute … though freezing, since CO is mostly known for snow on All Hallows Eve.

Here's what's cooking this week:
Sunday: were going to make one thing, ended up making pigs in a blanket (Matt and Tabby couldn't have been happier)
Monday: burritos
Tuesday: eating out (class)
Wednesday: Mushroom Tofu Cheese Strudel
Thursday: Shrimp Creole
Friday: Mushroom Beef Barley Soup

Weekend Bonus

It was a truly lovely fall weekend. Our “day off” was a perfect start to it. The restaurant was a bit … seedy … but the food was awesome. I wouldn’t go there again, probably (maybe after a late night concert or something??) but I would be game for a take-away order. The Pumpkin patch was great. We found the perfect one … where we weren’t being charged $10 each to spend a half hour and then buy pumpkins. The kids had fun and we got some really great pumpkins. That evening, my mom joined us for dinner and we made some great pumpkin pasta and apple spice cake.

Saturday was our normal bevy of to-do-list items. That evening, my parents watched the kiddos while we had dinner at California Cafe. It was a very nice meal … after that we picked up Ben and took him home with us, while Tabby spent the night with Grammy and Papa. After we put Ben to bed, we had dessert and watched SGU … a new, instant fave!

Today, despite good intentions, I missed the gym (my shoes were in my car, which was at my parents’ house). So we “slept in” and then left to meet up with a bunch of people at Sunflower Farm. Despite being all kinds of crazy tired, Tabby had a fun day and crashed like a ton of bricks when she hit the car. We finished up the day with a haircut for Tabby and a long session in the kitchen, making dinner and babyfood.

Hello October

There is a nip in the air! I had a cup of tea this morning, something I haven’t done in months. I need to dust off my ski gear and see if my jacket will fit me yet (ha!).

Tomorrow, I have my day off and I convinced my extra hard-working hubby (whose project demo’d at the White House this week) to take the day off as well. So we will be able to go on a little field trip to the pumpkin patch, check out a new restaurant and maybe head up the hill and see some fall color. And of course most importantly … be together as a family.

Then we have a weekend of absolutely NOTHING planned. Hooray. Lots of good time at home, time with friends and family, time at the gym, time to get my chef thing on, time to look at my kiddos and marvel at how cool and sweet and amazing they are. It is a little bit slower. I ♥ fall.

PS: That is what my little girl looked like about a *year* ago. Wow.
