Christmas Wrap-Up

Well it was a glorious Christmas from start to finish … made that much more prefect because it was a truly white Christmas here in Denver. We had about an inch when we woke up and several more by the time it finally stopped. Matt's dad and stepmom were in town and very excited to see Ms. Tabby. She took to them very well and seemed to have lots of fun playing with them. Unfortunately, they both had some sort of stomach bug while they were here and we didn't get to see as much of them as we might've liked.

Tabby was engaging and a bit overwhelmed, I think, and has a whole birage of new toys, books, CDs, clothes, and DVDs. We got to snuggle down for a nap midday and she weathered the day in very good spirits overall. Matt and I were spoiled beyond belief by our parents and by each other. This is one of the first Christmases that we've given each other gifts and it was really very nice. I got some lovely jewelry and a Lens Baby from him and gave him a few random things including a new duffle bag and some chisels. We're all set now to enjoy a bit of time off with our family … so we can do some skiing and play with our new toys.

Hope everyone else enjoyed their Christmas/Holiday!

Tabby Talk

Cuz I know all y'all really just come here to read about my vastly superior and exceedingly cute kid (there is sarcasm, here, people, no comments on my arrogance, please!!), I thought I'd share some recent Tabby-isms with you.

In this, her 10th month, we are really starting to see her personality emerge. I'm know it's always been there, but she just hasn't had all the tools to express it. There were a couple instances this past weekend that caused us to laugh out loud. When were cleaning up the condo and getting ready to leave, Mom had Tabby sitting on the counter with her sippy cup, hanging out. Tabby loves to sit on the counter and see what's going on. I guess she got bored or something because she decided to roll her sippy off the counter. So mom picked it up for her and gave it back. A few minutes later, the little minx gives a repeat performance and once it hits the ground and we all look at her, she gives us this big grin and claps her hands together (of course the juice went allll over the floor). It was so hard not to laugh.

Later, as we were driving back into Denver, we stopped at Beau Jo's for pizza. Tabby generally loves pizza, so we cut up a slice into little pieces and put it on a plate for her. She was kinda dawdling with her eating, so Mom and I were feeding her little bites with our hands. She liked the first couple of bites and then seemed to get cranky. Sometimes she gets cranky because she's not getting fed fast enough, so we kept feeding her. After a couple more bites, she spit out her pizza and smashed her open hand on it a couple times as if to say “Bad Pizza!!!” Matt ad-libbed for her and we all cracked up.

I think we're in for a wild ride with this little monkey … hehe. Continue reading “Tabby Talk”

Update

I bet you all thought I was abandoning you for real this time. Nope, I've just been away. We had our third-annual crazy cookie weekend in Vail. We left Friday afternoon and got back last night. Loads of snow. Even more cookies. Three babies. Six episodes of Ugly Betty watched. Hot buttered rum. Fun times with great people. And one amazing ski day.

We had originally planned on coming back on Sunday, but after the amazing amounts of snow that the mountains have been receiving over the past week or so, we decided to take Monday as a ski day and I'm so very glad we did. I got to ski with my dad and my hubby and my mom was sweet enough to spend the day with Ms. Tabby (I think both of them had a great time). The weather was clear and sunny. The snow was beautiful and it was hands down one of the best days of skiing I can recall.

The house is a mess. We have no food. We have no clean clothes. And I could not care less.

Loads of photos here.

9 Months

Today marks 9 months of smiles, gurgles, coos and other baby sweetnesses. Where has the time gone??! I'm amazed that she's been in this big world as long as I was pregnant with her. Every day is such a fun adventure and I can really say that I'm enjoying each day a whole lot. She seems to come up with something new every day. She's got three words down-pat: hi (which is more of an “iiiii” or “haaaaa”) and mama and dada (which she uses interchangeably). She absolutely melts my heart when she puts her arms up for us to pick her up or when she gives us the super-sized grin when we walk in the room or when she snuggles into us when she's extra tired.

As far as milestones go, she's been cruising right along. She likes to pull herself up and can go from a forward bend to standing all on her own and she's finally showing a bit of interest in crawling, getting up on all fours and rocking around a bit. She loves to clap when happy and wave hi and bye to everyone. She's eating pretty much everything we eat and has found very little she doesn't like. Noodles seem to be her tip-top favorite at the moment and she loves to shove them in her mouth and slurp them up, which is absolutely hilarious.

Happy 3/4 of a year, Ms. Tabby. Your mommy and daddy love you very much!!

The Cabinet

Matt has just completed the next to last piece of furniture in Tabby's room. The very last piece is a bookcase to go on top of this cabinet. It has been almost done for quite a while, but finishing (sanding, varnishing, sanding, varnishing, ad nauseum) takes such a long time!! Matt has put in many late nights and weekend afternoons into this piece and I think it is most lovely. Now Tabby has a place for her toys … and possibly a place for her! We discovered during a paticularly fussy period where she wanted to be in constant contact with us that she was immensely happy in the cabinet (as the photographic evidence shows). Perhaps we should build her a playhouse.

Long Weekend Wrap-Up

Tabby's first Thanksgiving was very enjoyable. She ate her turkey and squash with great zeal and really really enjoyed having the rapt attention of all of the people around her.

We had five lovely days of time off as a family and I think we made pretty good use of them. Honestly, a lot of it was used doing boring stuff at home, but we made it to the zoo with some friends on Saturday, which was fun, though I forgot the camera. Too bad, too, because we saw a joey who climbed back in his pouch. Very cool.

Miss Tabby has, regrettably, been a bit under the weather. She's had a little cold and is possibly teething (there's a LOT of drooling going on). This has caused her to be very clingy and easily upset and frustrated. She needed much more attention than usual which hindered the progress of our various projects, but of course, we were happy to give her what she needed. She seems to be doing a bit better.

Some stuff did get done, however …. Continue reading “Long Weekend Wrap-Up”

Creeping Right Along

I had a really fab and productive day yesterday. And we capped it off with a lovely date-night at the Donkeys Broncos Game where they beat Matt's home town (state?) team, the TN Titans. Cutler, a Vandy alum like Matt and I had an excellent game. It was overall just a very fun game to watch and we were so happy we could be there. My mom had secured us a couple of company tickets. We may have to ask nicely again. And as luck would have it, it was a bee-yoo-tee-ful evening in Denver with temps in the upper 50s. A very lucky thing in November.

My parents and Kelly watched Tabby and enjoyed themselves immensely. We were regaled with Tabby's infinite cute things when we went to pick her up. They played clapping games, fed her clementine oranges and read innumerable stories to her. And she was a happy sleeping baby when we got back.

Now I'm looking forward to a couple of days of work and then 5 solid days of “vacation” with Matt and Tabby. We're going to do some cooking, work on the house, and have a Thanksgiving celebration with friends and family. I'm so excited!

Monday Monday

Now we know what happens when she gets her naps. She had two naps yesterday, one with me in the AM and one with her daddy in the afternoon, both good long naps. When we put her to bed at 8:30 (already a while after her normal bedtime), she would have none of it. She layed there and talked to herself for a while and then started fussing. So we let her get up and watch Ugly Betty with us. This photo was taken around 9:55. Does she look tired to you? I went to bed at 10. I think she went to sleep by 10:30. Cheeky baby.

Pretty nice weekend. We did nexto nothing on Fri night. I went to bed at 9:15, though I wanted to go to bed around 8. Matt went to a woodworking show on Saturday while I went Christmas shopping with the girls. Tabby was a sweet happy baby the whole day. Sunday Matt was supposed to go shooting with the guys, but ended up having to do a work thing. Tabby and I did our grocery shopping, etc. and ran a couple of errands and we spent the rest of the day doing the boring Sunday stuff … laundry and such. Glad it's a short week, people!

And last, but certainly not least, a HUGE shout out of CONGRATS to my good bloggy buddy, Ani, who is expecting her first baby!! I'm so excited for her.

What Tabby wants for Christmas …

I keep getting asked what Tabby wants for Christmas. Though I started her a wishlist on Amazon, the whole thing seems kid of silly to me, cuz honestly, the things Tabby wants most, you just can't buy.

Tabby's Christmas List (as translated by mummy)
♥ for the grownups around me to stop changing my clothes whenever I get messy … this greatly infringes on my playtime/mobility
♥ to be able to eat ALL of my food with my own hands, no matter how messy it is
♥ to have everyone's undivided attention every waking moment
♥ to get a nice cuddle when something frightens me
♥ for Loki to slow down for a minute so I can “pet” him
♥ a trip to the zoo or anyplace else where there's nothing but interesting things to look at
♥ to be able to chew on anything I happen to pick up
♥ all baths, no showers
♥ another bite of that ice cream stuff
