But if Saucony wants to give me some money, I won't complain. Anyhow, so before we went to France, I decided to purchase a pair of casual sneakers. I have a really cute pair, actually … they're lime green Roos, but they tend to show dirt, so I wanted some darker ones to traipse around France in.

So I bought a pair of Saucony shoes. They're their “classic” or “retro” style and they're black. They're very cute … but way better than that even, is how comfy they are. I wore them day in and day out for 10 days. We walked lots … in cities, in crazy hill side towns, in caves, on cobbled streets, rocky dirt roads … everywhere … and my feet never hurt. These things get an A+++ for comfort.

Glasses

We went shopping yesterday. Matt needed new glasses. He got his eyes exmained (compliments of our insurance plan) at one of those fancy boutique eyewear stores. After the salesgirl/eyewear stylist hovered over us for about 15 minutes while we looked at very expensive glasses, I made the executive decision to go find a cheaper place to get Matt's specs.

So off we went to LensCrafters where Matt found an adorable pair of glasses with nice magnetic clipons. No hovering. No $500 Prada frames. And glasses in about an hour. No boutiques for this girl …

Brand New Bed

Our new bed was delivered Saturday morning. It's bee-yoo-tee-ful! We're so excited to have it. It means that pillows don't fall back between the bed and the wall and our cable hook-up doesn't keep getting pulled out. Plus, it's very pretty. Yet another piece of grown-up furniture … it's getting scary around here.

We've had a real low-key weekend. We've been watching TV and doing a little shopping and those other things that fill time like reading and cleaning and working out.

Still Sleepin'

It's after 10 and I'm still not quite awake. I worked myself damn hard yesterday and so I had a bit of a lie-in this morning.

Now I'm sitting here, surfin' the net. I've been looking at J Crew's web site. I normally never go there. The clothes do not fit me. But I was looking on Gap and they don't have dresses … just skirts. So I was wanting to look at some dresses. I actually quite like the dresses at J Crew. They've got really nice clean simple lines in good colors. They kind of make me think of Breakfast at Tiffany's or another movie set in that era.

We had a very nice weekend. Matt's lil' sister came to visit and we did all of the interesting things you can do in Madison … mainly went shopping in Chicago and stayed home and watched DVDs.

We made some cookies too … I'll post the recipes for those later. They turned out very well. This is boring. I'm going

Chicago Trip

OK, so I needed a new sportsbra. One of the best of the best is made by Nike, but here's the problem. They don't just sell it anywhere … it's sold almost exclusively at Niketown and at their online shop. Well you don't really just buy a bra online w/o knowing if it'll fit you properly or not, so Matt and I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to run to the nearest Niketown in Chicago (why didn't I think to do this when I was in Denver??). We reasoned that since it was a Sunday … Superbowl Sunday no less … that things wouldn't be that crowded. We were right! It was an excellent day to visit Chi-Town.

We drove to Madison Avenue and visited a few shops there (Niketown among them). Along the way we saw a car on fire, which was pretty interesting. After that, we went to Schaumburg (with a minor detour or two, thanks to not really knowing our way around) and hit Ikea . I scored a $40 coffee table that I will decoupage with something … sometime. It's pretty neat. And some other stuff. After all that was done, we had a leisurely dinner at Bahama Breeze. It was a pretty good restaurant … maybe a weee bit over-priced, but I had excellent shrimp and a great Bahamarita (yes, that has tequila in it!).

No crowds, no muss, no fuss. I love Superbowl Sunday.

A Real Bed

Our current bed is great. The only problem, we don’t really have one. What we have is very nice mattress and box spring sitting on the floor. Since the mattress is a huge pillow top, it sits pretty far off the ground, its actually higher off than our old dorm beds were. Also, because of the way we had our mattress positioned, it didn’t look odd either. We were in no hurry to find a new bed. Well, we finally found one we liked. Its made Bill Bale and hopefully will be finished by some time in March. If you want to talk a look at this stuff, you can look at http://www.sandhilldesigns.com/

Sitcom Television Charchters, Dictators, and May

As a (what I thought would be) 5 minute diversion, I started playing Guess the Dictator or Television Sitcom Character. I'm trying to make it guess DJ Conner from Roseanne. It's about 40 questions into it … It seems to be quite lost, making very pointed qustions, most of which are way off. I should never have headed down this road. OK good, it FINALLY guessed who I was. Kinda fun, really.

I found a really excellent price on a memory card for my digi-camera this morning, so I bought it. Quite excellent. Oh, speaking of the digital camera, I took a really cute clip of the puppy having a nervy spaz in the snow and it's up. Beware … it's 5 MB. It won't be up forever either since it sucks bandwith.

Milwaukee … Shopping for the Weird

Matt has already blogged about our trip to Milwaukee, but I thought I'd share my 2 cents . For me, the highlight of the trip (I'd already seen the pretty pretty architechture) was American Science and Surplus. It's a really cool store, full of weird things. You can buy a frog to disect, camoflouge tape, chemistry glassware, speakers ripped out of god-knows-what, and on and on and on. I went a little buy-happy (since I never get to it, being that it's over an hour away). I bought:
+ a pen that doubles as a duster (for my computer)
+ a table-top trashcan that looks like dude with his mouth open
+ tiny little round containers (good for pills or lip balm)
+ some kiddie-style blocks (good for god-knows-what, but i'll figure out something)
+ a neat woden box with latches and a handle
+ some eyedroppers
+ a bunch of duct tape in different colors (for my duct tape crafting endeavors)
+ a new (very cheap) engineering ruler
+ some wax that i have no clue what i'll do with (it was cheap and a very good brand)

It was a very successfull shopping trip indeed … well for me.

Amazonrific

Right now I'm wasting time on Amazon. It's truly one of my favorite pasttimes. Updating my wishlist … checking to see if that book is out yet, or if the sequel is coming out … it's very very good. Karaoke Revolution, for example, claims they'll be making more discs so you can get more songs. So I'm checking around for them and haven't found any yet. Bah.

I've got to finish up laundry today. Until I do that, I've got this annoying huge suitcase sitting in the middle of our bedroom taking up way more than its fair share of space. Our teeny washer/dryer just can't get that much done in one day, especially if I don't feed it like I'm supposed to.

We got the puppy back last night. She's so damned cute. Her temporary parents said she behaved very well and had only one accident. Way to go May!! I think she's glad to be back home though. She's sitting on the floor right near my desk, looking up at me. I missed her too.

Being Good

OMG! There's a Simpson's arcade game on Ebay for like $1000. I'd LOVE to buy it, especially since the seller is within easy drive distance (N. Chicago). But there's no way I can afford it. It's one of my all-time favorite games. My family used to go to this Pizza Hut and have dinner with my grandparents and my sister and I would bum quarters off our mom and grandma to play that game. So not only is it a great game, but it also has wonderful memories associated with it. I'll get one someday.

Meanwhile, new people are moving in upstairs. They're quite loud. That apartment turns over about every 6 months. I have no idea why. Our apartment manager lived there for a while, but she doesn't anymore. During her term as our upstairs neighbor, her husband managed to flood our apartment by leaving a sink on. Smart cookie, that one. Geez.
