Well, after all the excitement of closing was over, we had to move … we'd scheduled with a company to move at 9 AM on Saturday. At 10 they still weren't there. It turned out that they'd neglected to put us on the schedule (?!). So we (Matt) called around and found another moving company to come get our stuff. Of course, all of this made us majorly delayed and so by the time our stuff was geting loaded into the house, it was time to head off to my aunt's 40th b'day party, so we had Andrew, Matt's brother, come over and wait with the movers while we went to the party. Holiday Shopping
Firstly, I'm going to do a small plug. I've been working with my aunt, a very talented artist, to build a new web site for her business and a cafepress shop to promote some of her art. Neither are 100% done, but they're both v. close and it's getting towards gift-buying time, so I wanted to mention it early on. I've also put it in my shopping links in case you forget!!
Busy Weekend
We had a very nice weekend. We did quite a bit of shopping on Sunday. We raided the summer sale racks at the normal places and got a few new items for the closet for not much $$. And we got another piece of my b'day present, a new car stereo that has an auxillary port so I can plug in my MP3 player. It even glows amber (though it has a green option, too), just like all of the lights in my little Honda's dashboard. It's so very cool. We also ran some much more mundane errands, worked out, and spent most of the evening at home watching DVDs. Continue reading “Busy Weekend”
Packing
I actually started packing yesterday. I'd been kinda toying with the idea for a couple of days now and yesterday I finally took out a stack of boxes (I'd saved them two years ago when we moved here) and started packing. So now, one of our book cases in the living room is mostly barren … kinda sad. Also v. cool: I was going through this book that I had gotten for my birthday quite a while back (at least a year, prolly two) from someone … I'd started to read it a couple of times, but I never really gotten into it … anyhoo, I tossed into my “don't pack until later in case I want to read” pile and went on. A few minutes later, I looked down and the book looked a bit weird. So I picked it up and discovered that three crisp 10s had slid out of the back and were peeking over the edges. EXCELLENT! I love finding money I'd forgotten about (like when you clean out your purse/bag collection!).
So now I've got $30 Mad Money and I refuse to spend it on packing supplies and/or toothpaste. It will be used properly … to buy some dinner for Matt and I (which doesn't sound very mad, but we don't go out to dinner much) or maybe we'll go see a movie … both sound good. Continue reading “Packing”
A Little Ladybug for the Wallet
I already really like my Dicover Card. You get pretty good cash back and you can get some pretty good rewards from them too (extra % back on certain things like gas/groceries). Plus, when I lost my wallet, they were by far the easiest to deal with. One company made me sign an affadavit and have it notorized (like I didn't have enough to do with having my wallet lost). But now, I've found another reason to love 'em. They have a zillion cool card designs (give or take a few million)!! And I found one I really like … the one you see up there. If ya know me pretty well, then ya know why I like it. I wanted to get their Golden Retriever one, but the dog didn't look a bit like May, so I decided on this one. Cool, huh?
Art-O-Mat
We were down on State Street a couple of weeks ago and we went into this funky shop that had the typical sort of stuff you see in places like Uncommon Goods. The shop was fairly average, but upstairs, there was an Art-O-Mat. I'd read about them on the net, so I jumped at the chance to try 'em out. Basically, they convert an old cigarette machine and use it to dispense art for the masses. A pretty cool idea. We got two pieces … one was a piece of jewelry (a bug cast in resin) and the other was another cast of resin (also with a bug inside). It kinda sucked that we got two similar things, but they were neat anyhow.
There's a list on their website of the machines that they have. But I notice the one on State Street isn't listed, so you may run across one somewhere else. Pretty interesting idea!
Home Again, Home Again!
Well, we're back. And we had a very nice trip to Nashivlle. There's too much to recount in one post, so I'll spread it out a bit.
Before we even got out of town though, we got into a traffic jam because there was “road debris.” The road debris turned out to be dirt that a dump truck had dumped all over the place. The driver and the police officer that was helping him out were standing on the side of the road wiping off their hands with paper towels. And Matt started laughing and said, “It looks like they're going to try to clean up that whole mess with a roll of paper towels.” Heheheh.
The rest of our trip to Nashville was largely uneventful. We grabbed this cool thing from Radio Shack so we could use the laptop and listen to MP3s and watch DVDs (well only the co-pilot could watch, but whatever) on the way down. That was pretty neat.
After we got into Nashville, we went to dinner with Matt's mom and his brother and sister. It had been a long time and we had a very nice dinner and caught up.
After dinner, we gave Theresa her graduation gift and Andrew his belated birthday gift. We got Theresa a t'shirt that says “Gettin' Lucky in Kentucky” since she'll be going to Western Kentucky University and I made her a black ID holder with lime-green details out of duct tape (I'll post instructions soon). We got Andrew a deck of Playboy playing cards. They're a dorm sorta thing, I guess. Continue reading “Home Again, Home Again!”

The Search for a Gym Bag
I'm trying to find a new gym bag. You know, one that will actually hold everything I need so I don't accidently leave my running shoes by the door when I leave. But man is it frustrating.
I want something that's stylish and has good pockets and is waterproof and is a good color and is the right size and it'd be just peachy if it's under $50 since that's the amount of Christmas money (yes, I nerdily save my Christmas money for things like this …) I've got left.
Anyhow, I checked a few of the big boxes yeterday. The new Galyans by us had the best selection, but nothing that really suited me. And I also checked the huge selections at Amazon and Ebags. But nothing there worked either.
Now I'm looking at Nike. Their websites scare me. Everyone on their is strangely intense. Like little children will be murdered if they don't run the mile in 4 minutes. They've also gone all “stylish” with they're stuff. But it ain't my style. It's just … weird. No no, Nike. I don't want a gym bag that looks like a bowling bag. I don't want a gym bag that's a rolling suitcase (what the heck??). I don't want one that's all squarish. I don't want one that's black!! Well I guess black's OK, but not if it has your stupid huge logo all over it!!
Adidas.com … useless! Reebok.com …. What the heck is that Kylie Minogue look alike doing on their front page? Kylie Minogue or not … doesn't even sell bags online!
I've just had a brainstorm. My mom sent me a Title 9 Catalog. I should check their website. They've got six bags. None of which I'd be embarassed to carry, in fact, some of them are quite cute. OOh! I really like that one. Not to big, not too small. And it comes in black AND purple. A bit expensive, but not in comparison to the other's I've seen ($90 to advertise for Nike. I think not!). Have I found it??? Yep. That's it.
Saturday Morning
My body clock is still rather screwy, which means that I got up at 7:30 on a Sat. morning (?!!??!??). I spent a few hours doing work and then Matt and I left to run errands.
It was coupon day. We used our last coupon (1 of 3!!) for a free entree at Chin's. Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?? Well for me anyhow. Matt's cost $5. Then we went to Bed Bath and Beyond. A 20% off coupon had come in the mail and we desparately need a new toaster. The old one had a huge crack down the center since it'd been dropped too many times (don't even ask) and it was burning our toast and every once in a while it just went on strike and wouldn't work at all. So we bought a new toaster.
Our last outing was to see Cheaper by the Dozen at the cheapy movie theatre. That was such a cute movie! Sweet but not sappy. Funny, but not over the top. Luvin it.
Now we're back home to settle into a bitta work. Programming, laundry, cleaning, organization.
I do so luv weekends.
