Tourist Weekend Pt 1

We had the opportunity to play tourists in our own state this weekend because my sister's friend and roommate from college, Erica, is in town. We started off the day with a trip to the Paris Street Market. It was way hot and though we enjoyed looking, no one bought anything.

After a quick lunch, we gathered up Matt and went to the highest auto road in North America, up to 14,127 feet on Mount Evans.

Loads of photos, here and here.

Memorial Day Weekend

As with most 3-day weekends, the list of “to do” was miles long and only a portion of them got done, but we had a really nice and overall very relaxing weekend. And who knows? A bit over 1.5 hours 'til bedtime … I might just fit one or two more in .

Saturday was a hang-out day. We cleaned up the front yard and got it ready to plant bedding plants.

Sunday I met up with my mom and sis to get ready for my parents' BBQ while Matt worked on a bookcase for Tabitha in his shop. Later we all met up for some grilled goodness and fun with friends. I made mint limeade for the occasion. It was super good, but sadly did not come out the perfect green color that Martha had promised … so we added some food coloring. Photos here.

Today was more work … laundry, errands, gardening. And some fun. I've been playing Lost in Blue 2 incessantly. My DS has actually run out of batteries twice.

Work tomorrow. Boooo.

Nashville Town

Next time Matt tells me to book the earliest flight, remind me to ignore him. We got up at 3:30 AM Nashville time this morning to catch our 6 AM flight. That's 2 AM Denver time. Blah.

We had a very nice trip. Here's a rundown:
* Tabby got to meet two grandparents (Matt's dad and stepmom), her other great-grandma and her uncle Bryan
* We saw a huge snapping turtle
* Tabby got to spend some more time with her grandma and auntie
* We ate deep fried candy bars
* We met up with two friends from college and saw another get married!
* We visited two Nashville institutions and our Alma Mater
* We saw a human chess match
* We (Matt) swam with two doggies
* We took tons of photos

There's no place like home.

Happy Mothers' Day

Happy Mothers' Day to all you mothers out there. Hope you had a lovely day with your kids and other loved ones.

I certainly had a nice first Mothers' Day. Matt, Tabby, Mom & Dad and I went hiking at Three Sisters this morning. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time.

Then we went to my Aunt Peggy's house for a celebration with her family and my grandma. We cooked out and relaxed in their backyard. It was very nice. Miss Tabitha was introduced to the magic of bubbles and Loki got to hang around with the papillons, Nunsio and Marla. Loads of photos here.

San Francisco Days 4-7

Welllll … best paid plans went asunder. The hotel we were staying at lost internet connectivity and so I couldn't post anymore. Bummer. I still snapped a few photos though … so here are the last few days, minus photos from my mom.

Day 4: Downtown Oakland, Beard Papas, BART trip, Jersey Boys
Day 5: de Young museum, Golden Gate Bridge overlook, Goats for Hire
Day 6: meeting up with family, and a trip to Los Gatos (photos to follow)
Day 7: Haight Ashbury

We got in last night and we've been up to our elbows in laundry and weekly preparations. Lots more to share …

San Francisco Day 2

I could have sworn I put this up earlier, but for some reason it didn't make it.

Day 2 (Sunday) was our trip to wine country. I was mostly in it for the beautiful scenery, but I did enjoy a little wine as well. Here's the photos.

Hopefully I can get s'more photos up tonight!! We've been busy busy.

San Francisco Day 3

Well yesterday was a pretty low-key day. We got going slowly and though we had larger plans, we spent most of the day in Japan Town, which, though probably larger, is in my mind a sort of Japanese-themed mall with neat restaurants and fun shops. Full photo journal here.

In the evening, we had a delicious meal at Donna and Eddie's house, compliments of Eddie. Unfortunately, I was a bit too knackered to take any photos .

San Francisco Day 1

We got into San Fran last night after a fairly un-eventful flight. Tabby was a model baby, not making a fuss even once!

Today we had a great day exploring the city by the bay with our excellent hosts, Eddie and Donna. A full photo journal is here.

Update Part 2

Well while all the other folks in the city were apparently raiding the grocery store shelves (see previous post), we were heading to Wolf Camera to buy ourselves a belated Christmas present. We don't really buy and wrap up gifts for one another but we kinda just get a few things we're really longing for throughout the year. In this case, it was a paticular lens for our camera. I don't know the specs, but I wanted it to take some nice artistic shots and Matt said it would do just that, so we bought it. You can see a couple of examples above. I'm kinda still learning, but I really love it!

Anyhoo, when we got done at Wolf, we dropped by the grocery store to pick up some provisions. Frozen shrimp they had a plenty, but whipping cream? Fresh salad greens? Not so much. Who knows why. Maybe everyone fancies a nice bowl of lettuce and cream when they're snowed in. Anyhoo, I did eventually find some cream, but marscapone was nowhere to be found (couldn't quite make it to Whole Foods), so when I made the Peach Cupcakes with Marscapone Frosting, I'm not sure they were quite authentic. But they were tasty. I also made up a few old favorites: Baked Shrimp Scampi and Mandarin Salad.

Why all this cooking a few days after Christmas? Well as a treat for some very helpful helpers …. more on that tomorrow!
