New Year, New … Shoes!

Guess what was waiting for me when I got to work this AM? Yes … new shoes … Mary Jane Crocs to be exact. Now I can be comfy and fashionable. Perhaps some would take umbridge with my referring to Crocs (even Mary Janes) as fashionable, but this is my world, damnit. Mom bought them for me from the Crocs kiosk when we were Christmas shopping (they didn't have my size in stock) and they showed up sometime while I was gone. Happy Happy.

Anyhoo. I sort of feel like my 2008 has officially started. I know I'm about 8 days late, but I've been on vacation and now I'm back to work and out in the rat race and all that. I did go to the gym yesterday AND today … and as a seasoned gym lemming, I have to say … I HATE JANUARY AT THE GYM. Tons of resolution makers clogging up the cardio and fumbling around on the weights. I know some of them will stick it out and kudos and all for the effort … but man … pain in my butt. I have little enough time to be there, especially now and it sucks when I can't get what I need.

Ahh, on to more pleasant things … the SWG strike, for example. I really do like my TV, but having a bit of a break from it is AOK by me too. I've set the Tivo to capture Project Runway and Jamie Oliver's new show, Jamie at home. I also hear Nigella's got a new show … she's not as beloved to me as Jamie though. I have also been watching the box sets … Ugly Betty, Bones and we've got Heroes and The Office S 3 in the queue. What're your strike viewing alternatives?

And last but not least, Ms. Tabby. She's been working hard for weeks on a new skill. Not anything as frightening/exciting as crawling but way more heart melting … she has learned to give KISSES! It's this funny little thing where she sucks in her top lip and makes this smacking sound. And she does it over and over. I must remember to stalk her with the video camera so I might share her cuteness. It pretty much makes up for what she's been doing to us in the sleep department … but that's another blog entry entirely.

Back to Reality

I've been MIA. 1000+ pardons!! It has been super *super* busy around here. Here's a bullety update of what I've been up to:

* finally bought a new car
* went to a few very enjoyable parties
* spent a lovely 5 day weekend in Vail with my family
* been cooking from my new cookbook
* had three lovely days of skiing
* handled some miscellaneous junk I can't do when I'm working and child-minding all week
* played around a bit on my gameboy
* spent oodles of time with my two favorite people and single favorite canine

I haven't even taken many photos … but I'll upload what I've got soonish. Now I've got to dive back into it all tomorrow. Sooo much to do!

Tabbyisms

Can I prattle on s'more about my amazing and sweet and funny and cute kid? Yea? Ok, thanks.

Aunt GaGa
Recently, when Tabby sees my sis, Kelly, she goes “GaGa.” So Kelly jokingly said that GaGa must be her new name. I kept the joke going saying things like “Oooh, Tabs, Aunt Gaga's here.” So when we were at dinner the other night, I referred to my sis as “Aunt GaGa” and then Kelly said to Tabby, “I'm Kel-ly … Kel-ly.” My cheeky baby looks right at her, grins big, points at her and goes “Gaga.”

Tabby Goes to the Movies
I took Tabs to her first movie the other day. I didn't really have any reservations about this … she is overall a very easy going and good baby … well except one. She's …. chatty. She comes by this honestly as she is from a long line of chatty women. But that aside, I knew it could be a problem. Luckily, the movie (Juno – awesome, by the way, you must see it), was only about 90 minutes. Somewhere during the trailers, Tabby drifted off to sleep in my arms and continued to sleep peacefully for about 45 minutes. For the next 20-25, she ate the crackers and drank the juice that my mom handed me. Then … she got rather chatty. Ba baaaah! Gooo. Hi (which still sound rather like haaaaaai) hi hi! mama! Mama!!! So we spent the last 20-25 min of the movie walking the ramp that leads into the theatre. She was enthralled by the path lighting and the light coming through the window in the door. She also *really* dug the sound track and laughed out loud a couple of times and danced around in my arms. Luckily for me, the movie was mostly dialogue. But I must buy it on DVD when it comes out.

Christmas Wrap-Up

Well it was a glorious Christmas from start to finish … made that much more prefect because it was a truly white Christmas here in Denver. We had about an inch when we woke up and several more by the time it finally stopped. Matt's dad and stepmom were in town and very excited to see Ms. Tabby. She took to them very well and seemed to have lots of fun playing with them. Unfortunately, they both had some sort of stomach bug while they were here and we didn't get to see as much of them as we might've liked.

Tabby was engaging and a bit overwhelmed, I think, and has a whole birage of new toys, books, CDs, clothes, and DVDs. We got to snuggle down for a nap midday and she weathered the day in very good spirits overall. Matt and I were spoiled beyond belief by our parents and by each other. This is one of the first Christmases that we've given each other gifts and it was really very nice. I got some lovely jewelry and a Lens Baby from him and gave him a few random things including a new duffle bag and some chisels. We're all set now to enjoy a bit of time off with our family … so we can do some skiing and play with our new toys.

Hope everyone else enjoyed their Christmas/Holiday!

Gettin' Drunk on Eggnog

Found this t'shirt at my local WalMart (I usually avoid that place like the plague, but they're the only ones that sell the sippy cups that Tabby will drink from, so … y'know). And I'm feeling very festive adorned in it today. I am also (and have been for a while now), sporting a certain early Christmas gift from Santa Matt.

Just a few days 'til Christmas left and our tree is FINALLY up. And I really can say that shopping IS DONE!!! Yay. Wrapping … even mostly done. Yay! My in-laws arrive today. Yay! I'm so excited for them to see Tabby. They haven't seen her in over 3 months.

Think I've finally found a bit of that Christmas spirit … or perhaps it's the eggnog. Just kidding. I'm still at work … working … and looking forward to our holiday luncheon. I made Grandma P's mac 'n' cheese, which is oh-so-good … and of course the Secret Santa gift exchange.

A Word on Gravatars

Gravatars (Global Avatars) seem to be the new big deal in blogging. Since they are global (not specific to one certain blogging engine) and referenced by your email address, they are especially great for me since I don't use any blogging engine (at least not one that's available to anyone else). So I have implemented Gravatars on this blog and if you would like a cute little icon to represent you on this blog (and many many others, including WordPress, Type Pad and Expression Engine), just hop on over to Gravatar.com and sign up. It is easy and free …. and global!!

Weekend & Zoolights

Another weekend that went too fast!! I took off a bit early on Friday and went home to get a few things accomplished while Ms. Tabby was at daycare. Then I got to spend a couple hours with her before Matt and I left for another Christmas party. She got to spend the night with Auntie Kelly who took a study break to play with her favorite (if only) niece.

Saturday was filled with shopping and on Saturday evening we went to the zoo to see the annual Zoolights (all photos here!). It was our first time and we will definitely be going back. They do some amazing Christmas light displays. Some are 3-D. Some are animated … some are just pretty. And they use it as a fundraiser for themselves and local organizations. They local organizations have booths that sell hot chocolate and other manner of warm concessions (funnel cakes, etc.) for you to sip and munch as you walk through the zoo. It is always neat to be somewhere at a time or in a circumstance you wouldn't normally be there and this was no exception. We didn't see many animals, but the lights were amazing. Tabby oohed and ahhed.

Sunday was another day spent Christmas shopping. I can now proudly say that I am all but done. I also have a package ready to ship to our out-of-town family members and even more wrapping than that done. Now I'm mostly waiting for some online orders to come in. Oh yea, and we need to put up that tree.

Tabby Talk

Cuz I know all y'all really just come here to read about my vastly superior and exceedingly cute kid (there is sarcasm, here, people, no comments on my arrogance, please!!), I thought I'd share some recent Tabby-isms with you.

In this, her 10th month, we are really starting to see her personality emerge. I'm know it's always been there, but she just hasn't had all the tools to express it. There were a couple instances this past weekend that caused us to laugh out loud. When were cleaning up the condo and getting ready to leave, Mom had Tabby sitting on the counter with her sippy cup, hanging out. Tabby loves to sit on the counter and see what's going on. I guess she got bored or something because she decided to roll her sippy off the counter. So mom picked it up for her and gave it back. A few minutes later, the little minx gives a repeat performance and once it hits the ground and we all look at her, she gives us this big grin and claps her hands together (of course the juice went allll over the floor). It was so hard not to laugh.

Later, as we were driving back into Denver, we stopped at Beau Jo's for pizza. Tabby generally loves pizza, so we cut up a slice into little pieces and put it on a plate for her. She was kinda dawdling with her eating, so Mom and I were feeding her little bites with our hands. She liked the first couple of bites and then seemed to get cranky. Sometimes she gets cranky because she's not getting fed fast enough, so we kept feeding her. After a couple more bites, she spit out her pizza and smashed her open hand on it a couple times as if to say “Bad Pizza!!!” Matt ad-libbed for her and we all cracked up.

I think we're in for a wild ride with this little monkey … hehe. Continue reading “Tabby Talk”
