Digging, Watching, Reading

Digging
Have you guys seen Groupon yet? I think I'm the last one at that party, but just in case. It's a social deals site where local businesses offer goods and services at a DEEP discount. Today for Denver, they had three portrait sessions and prints for 87% off. They didn't give high-res originals, though, so I didn't bite. Worth a look though.

I also found these cute paperclip tabs at Target yesterday. I only wish they were erasable! Oh well.

Watching
Biggest Loser is over (waaaaah!). I was pleased at the outcome and hope the winner can keep the weight off long-term. It was a really good season. I look forward to it coming back in the fall. Luckily, Losing It with Jillian is on starting NEXT WEEK. She's shaping up flabby families across the country. Sounds like fun.

We went to see Iron Man 2 a couple of weeks ago. I've got to say … meh. RDJ is nice to look at and all, but it was long. And the theatre was cold. And really, I prefer my movies AT HOME. Where I can pause. And run use the bathroom and such. Plus, $20 for both of us??? Seriously?? That's over 2 months of Netflix service or 10 eps of Chuck!! But I will be going to see SATC2 with my mom and sister. Reading
I've been a bit slower with the reading for some reason. I've been making more phone calls on the drive home, I think.

I've just finished Excuses Begone by Wayne Dyer. It's exactly the kind of self-help stuff I'd usually silently mock, but I really enjoyed it and found his outlook on the way we champion and defeat our own purposes with our minds to be really true and useful. If you're interested at all, I think it's a worthwhile read.

Run Less, Run Faster, was a good read, though I didn't really read it cover-to-cover as much as I skimmed it for weight-training exercises and running regimes. I can pay it a high compliment by saying it's one I think I might like to own. It has good/useful info in it.

I really really enjoyed the second installment of Nora Robert's Bride Quartet, Bed of Roses. This one focuses on another of the friends, Emma, the florist, who falls in love with someone totally unavailable. It's sappy romance, but it's good sappy romance.

I'm in the middle of another non-fiction book, now. This one is The Death and Life of the Great American School System, by Diane Ratvich. The title pretty much sums it up, and also kinda makes me want to homeschool my kids. That is if I had any patience. Which I don't. I am not even halfway through, but it is a good, engaging read and an important topic.

I'm not sure what's up next. I've got a really long reading list, so I'm sure I'll find something.

  1. Yes going to the movies holds no pleasure for me as well. I dislike the high cost of snacks and beverages. But what gets me the most is the rude theater patrons. It's just some movies you need to see on a big screen. And until I get a really huge television I have to see some films with rude folks. Sigh and lol.
