So Ben is turning 4 next Wednesday and he is having a party. I tried to convince him to have a big friends-invited party NEXT year so he and Tabby could be trading off, but he was having none of it, so he is having his party this year too. Who can blame him?? Anyhow, just as for Tabby, I totally would’ve gone ALL OUT and made him some awesome themed something. But that’s not my little guy’s style. He had his heart set on one thing: Chuck E Cheese, i.e. kiddie Vegas. And there was no deterring him.
Later, I asked him if he wanted me to make his birthday cake. He did not. He wanted one from the store with “lots of frosting.” I am stingy with the frosting? News to me. Anyhow, last Friday we ran party errands. First we went to Party City to buy plates, cups, etc. He chose BATMAN. All Batman. He would have bought that store out of everything Batman, but we limited him to plates, cups, napkins, little batman rubber bracelets and some balloons. Then we were off to Costco to order the cake because if I have to eat store bought cake, Costco’s is about the best (besides Whole Foods and I am not paying $60 for a cake that mostly little kids with little appreciation for Berry Chantilly are going to be eating). When we got there and I saw the available designs, I was a little worried. They didn’t have a Batman cake or any sort of licensed action figure cake and I thought Ben might balk.
Nope. He got all jazzed about a dinosaur cake. And so that’s what we ordered. Maybe I’ll stick a Batman figurine next to the dino. And maybe I won’t. But Ben’s happy. So I’m happy.
Those pics are too adorable.
