A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of visiting my aunt and uncle at their mountain home in the pretty town of Granby, CO. The big feature of Granby, CO is Lake Granby and their house is right on the lake. In the summer we have a wonderful time boating, but in the winter, the lake is frozen solid and covered in snow which makes it perfect for snowmobiling.
This was my first time on the snow mobiles and man it is FUN – fast and wild and awesome! My uncle pulled the kids behind him in a sled and Matt and I rode on the other snowmobile and watched them go. I was worried they’d be cold and bothered by the snow blowing in their faces, but they all LOVED it and wanted to go faster, FASTER!
The other main activity we did (besides sitting by the fire) was snowshoeing. All parents and kids got out on the snowshoes and went about a quarter mile onto the lake and tramped around a bit.
Just look at that determined little face. This activity wasn’t nearly as much of a hit as snowmobiling was. I think it was a little too close to hiking for their tastes and beyond that, the snow had kicked up considerably and that was hampering their enjoyment as well. But they plugged along for a good while, and seemed to enjoy testing out the snowshoes.
In between the activities, the kids played and we had delicious food and the best of company. It was such a lovely weekend.
It all looks sooo much fun.
