What a week we had. Not only was it one of the busiest on the calendar, but it was just … weird. I received two pieces of very bad news … a divorce, a diagnosis. Neither belong to me, but both affect dear friends will continue to for years to come. It was hard and kind of depressing. You hate to see the ones you love in pain.
Yet in theĀ middle of it all, there was much fun and celebration and life going on like it does. My kiddos had their end of camp celebration. The camp was “circus” themed and they had a darling circus parade and some circus songs and then treated us to popcorn. Ben sang his little heart out, so overjoyed to be a part of it all. Tabby has come from being the teeniest one in her class (by far) to one of the tallest big kids. Matt and I said a bittersweet goodbye to the sweet little preschool our kids have attended for the last two and a half years.
Wednesday night we went to celebrate with long time friends at a baby shower. It’s always so amazing to see my kids playing with kids of women I’ve known literally since elementary. It’s almost surreal. How are the girls I had sleepovers with old enough to be married with kids? How am I?
Friday morning, we drove way far south to drop off the camera for cleaning and repair and met up with a woman who was selling a lot of Duplo on Craigslist. $50 later, our kids are the proud proud owners of enough Duplo to almost bury themselves in. All weekend we’ve had a constant refrain of “Can we play with the legos???”
Saturday we spent allll day doing some back-to-school shopping. We checked out a great new-to-us Thai restaurant that had some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to bring Matt back there. Tabby got some new dresses and leggings for school and Ben got some darling Vans with flames on them. He was a happy happy boy.
Sunday we got up earlyish and spend some time exercising as a family. Tabby rode her bike and Matt and I ran while Ben had to ride in the stroller (he’s just not quite fast enough on the bike yet). The rest of the day we spent doing grocery shopping and errands and then putting together the Thank-You/Goodbye dinner for our sitter. The dinner went off without a hitch and it was another bittersweet sort of end of an era. We’ve been so blessed.
In the in-between times, we got to sleep a bit extra. We watched quite a bit of The Olympics – I just adore our men’s gymnastics team! – and did the laundry folding and the picking up. A nice weekend.
Tomorrow – my tutorial on DIY Kindle Books! Really!
I am sorry about the bad news. I am glad you had a lovely weekend though.
