As usual, it’s our own version of semi-organized chaos over here. Just a sampling of what we’ve been up to:
- We’re busily planning our summer camping trips. Sites book up FAST. We’ve already got two trips planned, one to Sand Dunes in May and one to Rocky Mountain National Park in June. Add to that our trip to FL in May, two other camping trips we want to take, weekend trips to Vail, and a possible 10th anniversary trip and I’m pretty sure we’re going to spend half of the summer away from home. So what else is new?
- Matt took Tabby to the store with him on Saturday to pick up some groceries. She spied a coconut and wanted to try it, so he bought it for her. He used a corkscrew to drill a hole in it and then she sampled the milk through a straw. She wasn’t a huge fan. Next they will do something with the flesh. For now it’s sitting on the counter.
- I ran a 10 mile race on Saturday. It was very hilly which is unusual for me since I run mostly on the treadmill or a few tried and true outdoor spots, and I hit it HARD. My body hurt pretty much the rest of the weekend and I had to take naps and go to bed early. Good wake up call for my half marathon in April.
- Most of our Nashville family (Matt’s stepmom, brother, sister, brother-in-law, and niece) are arriving on Thursday. I’m super excited to meet my niece, now 3 months old!! And it will be good to see everyone else too. We have some fun plans including, of course, skiing.
- Tabby starts skating lessons tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect since I am at best semi-competent on the ice and at worst a danger to myself and others. She is mad excited and I’m excited for her! The lessons are at the kind of inconvenient time of 5:45 … doubt we can manage to have dinner before hand, but the kids will be starving after. At least it’s not 10AM.
- We are still trying to get rid of the kids’ old dresser. I thought it would go fast on Craigslist (storage furniture seems to) but we have had no hits! It may end up at Good Will which would be a shame, but we don’t have room anymore and the kids have outgrown it. It is currently living in my office, blocking access to 4 cabinets.
- We have been watching Downton Abbey and Star Trek Enterprise. They are both enjoyable … Star Trek in a predictable Star Trek way and Downton Abbey is like a really long, awesome Jane Austen book made into a movie. The only problem with Downton Abbey is that I have to pay better attention to it than I’m accustomed to so I can’t waste time with games on the Kindle.
- In related news, I am deep into William Shatner’s Autobiography, Up Till Now, which I’m finding really enjoyable. He is the reader and he truly seems to be able to poke fun at himself which you can’t help but like. Before this, I read ScreamFree Parenting, which was a really great book and gave me lots of good stuff to think about.
- Ben is really into his big boy bed. He loves that we can join him there for a snuggle. And though he knows he can come out on his own, he doesn’t do it very often, preferring to have us come get him. I love going in his room and telling him good morning. “Morning Mama! I get up!” Heart.Melt.
- Cookbook challenge is going on. I’ve got a couple more new recipes I’ve tried, one a pretty good one, and a couple of mehs. More on that tomorrow.
- I have also made a couple more recipes from Pinterest and the archives lately. My Pinterest recipe was for flax-seed meal crust … the texture was good, but it had a weird aftertaste that no one could get over. So we called up the pizza shop and got some real pizza.
