Bead Bowls

So bloggy bud Nannette challenged everyone to stop pinning and start making. OK, well not STOP pinning. That would be crazy, but to definitely start MAKING in her Pinteractive challenge. I was going to do something with the kids this weekend, but it was rather full, so last night we got crafty and made bead bowls as inspired by this pin.

Here’s what you need:

• cooking spray
• small oven proof bowls
• plastic melting beads

Here’s how you do it:

Heat your oven to 400 degrees. Grease an oven-safe bowl or two. Then get out the beads.  You will need to line your bowl as much as you can with these beads in a single layer. We found what worked best is to pour them in the bottom and push them down.

They get pushed up the sides and then the grease sort of sticks them to the sides of the bowl. You can kind of try to plop them down so they line up on the sides, but more often than not they fall in the bottom and you have to push them down into the single layer anyhow.

Once your bowl is lined as high as you want/can get, you pop it in the oven for 8-10 minutes. When it’s out, let it cool for a few minutes and then use a knife to pry it away from the sides of the bowl and voila! A cute little bowl for putting change or trinkets or what have you in there.

They also make great hats!

This project was a bit hard for Ben to do, but a good chance for him to practice his fine motor skills as well as his annoy-sissy skills. Tabby loved this and cannot wait to do more melty-bead projects.
