The whole baby thing has left me a bit … flabby. It's interesting because whereas I seemed to gain all over with Tabby, with Ben I seemed to have gained everything in a single spot. My tummy. Sucky. Double sucky that the tummy chub was making it hard to run … a key ingredient to getting rid of the tummy chub. So I got a little help. They work like a charm and now I can run again … granted only in like 5 minute increments, but still … I can run again. Yay!
I also picked up a copy of EA Active while we were at Costco last weekend. I've had my Wii Fit for a while now and while it's fun, I don't think it's much of a workout. It could be… but it's set up kind of poorly. I didn't have high expectations for EA Active (I figured I could always return it – Costco is good about that) … but it is great! You use only the Wii remote and the nunchuck and it comes with a resistance band. You can use the balance board with it if you like. It takes you through the paces of lunges, squats, etc. and incorporates running, sports drills and dancing. And it is fun! Whereas Wii Fit made you return to the menu to select a new exercise, EA Active comes with MANY routines and allows you to setup your own. Very fun and interesting … and it makes you sweat.
But of course the workout portion is only a part of the equation. I am also watching what I eat. After my workouts, I love to have one of my vanilla shakes. But of course woman cannot live by virgin drinks alone. All the time I was pregnant, I wanted a margarita. So now I can have one … except that one can have upwards of 500 calories which is hard to work into a healthy day of eating unless it's melba toast the rest of the day. So I tried out a low-cal alternative from Hungry Girl and I loved it! Very very close to the real deal. I'd be interested to try it in a blind taste-test.Moving on … now that I'm spending a lot more time at home with the kiddos, we create a lot more messes and the kitchen is the room I care most about keeping very clean. In this vein, I purchased a Shark Steam Mop from Target. All you have to do is add water and it makes steam for you to clean your floor with … using a cloth pad that you can just toss in the washer. Tres impressive.
The other cleaning thing I purchased that I love are my micro fiber towels. I saw them recommended as a paper towel alternative on some blog and I picked some up at (can you guess where? sure you can, yep, it's …) Target in the automotive section. They leave no residue on surfaces and come out of the machine like new.
Moving on … I am still on the milk machine upwards of 10x/day. So I have to do something to pass the time. After I read everything on Google Reader and check out Facebook, I get bored. So … on to Yahoo! Games. I am greatly enjoying Cake Mania 3 where you run a very busy bakery and serve up pretty cakes (and drinks) to hungry customers. It is really fun and gets difficult the further in you get. Also Farm Frenzy 2 where you run a farm and meet various goals under time constraints.
And of course, good ol' TV. Where would we be without it? Wait. Don't answer that. Anyhow, I have been digging on Nip/Tuck and Burn Notice, borrowed from our AWESOME library. Where Nip/Tuck is such a train wreck I can hardly watch sometimes (though I still enjoy it), I seriously love the tongue and cheek humor and great action scenes in Burn Notice. I'm also putting the Tivo to good use and loving reruns of How I Met Your Mother and eagerly anticipating each new episode of Royal Pains and now Top Chef Masters!!
Now off to sleep … which I also like … no, LOVE.
This blog entry is SO awesome because it gives me SO many good tips and ideas! That Shark may be perfect for our kitchen and wood floors. We have a Shark steam cleaner, but it sucks. I hate it. I'd rather have something convenient like that. Mmm, vanilla shakes! I'm using some Weight Watchers ones. Delicious. And good to know about the EA Active! Expensive?
OOOO YAY!! I've been wanting the Wii Active, now I will definitely get it. I can't believe you are already running. My hips felt like they would split in half for at least three months. You are inspiring me.
I want the Shark too. Our tile grout is tough to clean. I have to scrub it Cinderella style once a week.
I used to love all the games out on Yahoo! I can't even start now, I get pulled in too quickly and can't quit until I WIN EVERYTHING. My children would probably starve Farm Frenzy sounds so tempting. I haven't played that one yet. If I disappear for a few weeks, that's certainly the cause.
I really, really want the Wii Fit + EA Active, because with 3 kids, two of whom I'm still nursing, I'm only averaging 2-3 runs a week.
It's amazing how much TV you watch while nursing, isn't it? I'm embarrassed to admit how much I watch…and how much I DVR.
I love burn notice too… love it love it love it love it…. I really want one of those mops!
OK, you're the second person to say Active is more of a workout than Fit, so I'll have to get it now. Thanks!
