This had all the makings of a fine weekend. Firstly, it was a weekend. Secondly, it was a FREE (i.e. no commitments) weekend. Thirdly, the beastly hot weather was promising to dissipate and leave some cooler temps in its place.
And it started off pretty nice. We took Tabby to her doc's appt. on Friday, which went just fine. She's jumped in percentiles a bit and no longer falls under 20th in any category. Who knows if it will stay that way. Her parentage could put her in almost an percentile range. Then we came home and hung out and made yummy muffins. As always, after her shots, Tabby was running a low-grade fever and being sort of fussy.
Saturday, we got up and went to the Cherry Creek Farmer's Market. We had a really nice time. It isn't as huge as the one in Madison was, but it is definitely the biggest one in CO we've been to. There were sellers with good CO meat (we raise lots of lamb and beef here in CO) and tons of CO produce. We got lamb, tomatoes, beef, corn, peaches, and apples. And not just any apples. Two varieties you can't get in the grocery store: honeycrisp and jonathan. Yum yum yum. Tabby seemed to enjoy herself. There was lots to look at and smell and she loved a huge Newfie we saw … she babbled loudly until we brought her over to pet him.
After the market, we went home to have lunch and spend a nice day working around the house. And for the most part, that's what we did. Matt worked in his shop, Tabby had a nap, and I worked around the house. After dinner, we put Tabby to bed (she seemed extra tired). Later on, we realized that she hadn't had her meds and we went in to give them to her. We gave her her meds and started to put her back into her bed. And suddenly, she puked EVERYWHERE. She continued to do this until her stomach was empty. It was weird too … almost like she did it meal by meal. Hey look, there's breakfast. Oh … here comes lunch. Etc. Gross, I know, but that's how it seemed.
We were up most of the rest of the night with her. She threw up occasionally and took fluids a bit. By morning, she hadn't thrown up in a while and we sort of thought we were out of the woods. Most of the morning progressed without incident. She took fluids and we went on about our business.
While Matt was watching the Broncos game (I will call them Broncos this time, not Donkeys, because they won), I took a long nap to try to recover from the previous night. Poor Matt deserved one just as much, but let me sleep cuz he's awesome like that. Just after I got up, we thought we might feed her some solids and see how she did with those. So I put her in her high chair and started peeling a banana. I hadn't even gotten any banana in her bowl before she had covered me, herself, her high chair and the floor with all of the fluids she'd ingested in the past 12 hours or so. So we stripped everyone down and cleaned up and abandoned the idea of giving her solids. Then we noticed that she had a rash across her shoulders. That caused us enough alarm that we called the doc's office. They said that everything was probably just a reaction to her shots and gave us some parameters to decide if we should bring her in.
Fortunately, in the next few hours, she seemed to improve. Her rash went away, her slight fever lessened and she even ate some solids. She's kept those down, along with quite a few oz of milk and another round of solids since then and she seems much improved if not yet 100%. Can I tell you how glad I am that she doesn't need shots again for 6 mos??!?
Wow what a weekend to say the least. Poor little Tabby and both you and Matt. Hope she is feeling loads better!
BTW I LOOOVE lamb. Didn't always. I learned on the Food Network that CO is the #1 supplier of lamb to the US. Cool!
Yikes, getting puked on… one of the joys of parenthood I guess? So glad she is feeling better. Darn vaccinations, I wish we could just skip that part!
Poor Tabby. Glad she's better. Shots suck.
Great pics! So sorry to hear about Tabby's puke fest! yuck! Glad she's feeling better though!
