G'morning all. I'm trying to shake the annoyances the day has already thrown my way. It will be a good day. It will be a good day.
Caring for my small, yet sometimes demanding, bundle of love leaves me with far less time for reading than I used to have. Luckily for me, the pregnancy fairy did not, apparently, take away my speed reading ability from me when she took away my memory, so I can still knock out quite a few pages in scant time. Plus, there's always the elliptical. Anyhoo, though I rarely buy books from Target (or anywhere else, for that matter) before I audition them, I like to look through their selections whenever I'm in so I can get some reading suggestions. Whoever picks their books seems to do a pretty good job. Anyhoo, since aforesaid memory abandoned me, I've had to resort to standing around like a dip with my notepad and writing down titles or stealing Matt's camera phone and taking a photo of the shelves. But the other day, I noticed a sticker on their books that says “Bookmarked.” Come to find out, they have all of their picks, as well as a book club type setup on their website. Very useful. Check it out. It's no secret that we're nerds at my house. So I was rather jazzed to find these DIY instructions for geek wine charms. They're made from common electrical components … capacitors, resistors, etc. One big (and kinda intresting) difference between these and other wine charms is that you solder these in place and don't take them off when you stick the glasses in the dishwasher.
Also in the crafty realm, I just wanted to share a link for a great fabric painting supply company, Dharma Trading Co. They have tons of “blanks” (t'shirts, tote bags, dresses, etc) for you to paint, as well as a great selection of paints and tools.
Lifehacker.com, one of my perennial favorite sites, has had a couple of really good articles on organization lately. I'm not too bad in the organization department, but I could defnitely stand to be better and these articles have some good suggestions:
– secrets of the super organized
– home stations
– magazine organization with binders
– making a small kitchen bigger
– organizing your finances
Another cool thing via Lifehacker … Numbr gives you a disposable phone number that forwards to your regular phone number to use for … well whatever. I think it would be nice for placing ads on Craigslist.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows is getting tantalizingly close to release date. In the past, we've gone to the midnight releases at Barnes & Noble or whatever, but this go-around we're having the book delivered to our door. I personally want to barricade ourselves in the house and read it cover to cover. Wonder if that'll happen.
I have pretty much finished the site for Matt's woodworking projects. But now I need to spend some time with him photographing his shop, his tools, and the projects he's already completed or is currently working on so we can add some content. It should be way cool when it's done.
We were amazed to find last night how much the On Demand content from Comcast has improved. I looked through their movies, and there were actually quite a few (20+?!) that I'd want to watch. In addition, they had a bunch of CBS shows that you could just dial up and watch. And I love that I can get Sesame Street on demand for my munchkin whenever.
And speaking of TV shows, this site, TV Links, has an amazing collection of tv shows online for your viewing pleasure. I've been catching up on the last season of Scrubs.
Have a groovy Thursday.
That post had a ton of good info. Thank you.
I LOVE when you post links. You always know all sorts of cool new things.
Have you been keeping up with all the Harry Potter predictions? It's pretty funny to see how so many people are sure they know how it will end.
