We spent the weekend in the mountains. Richard, who works with my mom, has a cabin up near Red Feather Lake and he holds an annual campout and invites all of his co-workers. So on Friday we loaded up my dad's Element and took off. May had to ride in the back seat with Matt and I, but she seemed to enjoy herself. She found a pillow that my mom had lain between the two front seats and laid her little head on it and snoozed for almost the whole trip (right through an incredible thunderstorm we encountered along the way).
It was late by the time we arrived and we spent the balance of the evening having a bit of food, sitting around the campfire and pitching our tent. As we went to pitch our tent, I stepped in a gopher hole and twisted my ankle. Youch! It hurt like mad, but it's pretty much healed now…. Anyhoo, so we pitched out tent, but it was kinda on a hill, so we were all (dog included) sliding down hill all night. Not the most comfy, but whatever.Saturday Matt and Dad went fishing in the morning. Matt apparently had some pretty good luck and Dad did fairly well. Mom and I lazed around her cabin and napped and read books and stuff like that.
In the afternoon (after snacking on some BBQ pig) we went hiking on a rocky outcrop. There were some amazing views, cool-looking rocks, and a really neat little pool/pond thing (spring-fed we think).
The evening was spent playing games and eating banana boats and hanging out around the campfire.
After another night's slanted sleep, some more fishing for the guys, and a bit of clean-up, we packed up the Element and headed back to Denver.
All in all, a greeeat weekend.
PS: I've got some great pictures, and they're all ready to upload, I've just gotta find the time to do it … soon, I promise!!
more power to you! Last time i went camping I was 8 and all my crayons melted together and i've hated it ever since.
Can you believe that I have NEVER gone camping? Sorry you were sliding in the night but I'm sure you still had fun.
That sounds like so much fun. Sorry about your ankle. Hope it heals soon!
Sorry about your ankle.
Glad you two are getting some much needed R&R!
Looking forward to seeing the pictures.
I know what it feels like sliding downhill in a tent! Funny!
The trip sounded so refreshing, but camping is camping and it's a lot of work!
Hope the ankle is fine
