Shortest. Weekend. Ever.

Well that was officially the shortest weekend ever. Seriously. I feel like I just left work and I'm already back. Friday, Matt and I had date night. We went to Red Lobster because we were both wanting to have their Cheddar Bay Biscuits (you know what I'm talking 'bout). Yum. I honestly don't recall what we did with the rest of the evening. Tivo? Video games? Probably a combination. Saturday was our usual gender-divided morning where he went mountain biking and I went to Whole Foods with MamaFriend and CutestBaby to indulge in the world's best cake … it's called Berry Chantilly for anyone searching it out, BTW. We also hit Michaels and Old Navy. They are conveniently located very near one another. We took a long nap Sat afternoon cuz we were both zonked from all the heat. Then we watched a lot of Tivo (How good was Stargate?!?!) on Sat night. Sunday, we helped Matt's brother move apartments. And that, folks, was the weekend.

Happy Friday!

I don't know about the rest of you, but it has been one LOOOOOOONG week for me. Not to say that it's been bad or anything. Just long. And a bit weird. But that's another story entirely. We don't have big plans for this weekend for a change. We're tentatively having a “date night” tonight which will probably consist of dinner and possibly a movie. Possibly that movie will be watched from the security of our couch. And perhaps that movie will not be a movie at all, but will instead be a bit of Tivo. Who knows? I have plans to get cake and coffee with a friend tomrorow while our husbands are being athletic (aprapos, no?). The house is a mess, so something probably needs to happen with that. And Matt's brother needs help moving, so I know what we were doing on Sunday.

Well hope you all have lovely Friday and an equally lovely weekend. Some good soul brought zuchinni bread (AND cream cheese) to our break room, so I'm quite a happy girl.

Izze Drinks

I had no idea until a few days ago that Izze sparking drinks were homegrown in CO … they originate in Boulder, about 15 miles away from where I live. So now I'm wondering if people in other states have had the excellent Izze drinks. I hope so … I feel like they kinda got the whole thing right. They made them less sweet instead of making them with fake sugar … what a concept. Anyhoo, their site says you can buy them at Starbucks, Wild Oats, Whole Foods and Target, and they are pricier than pop, but they're way better and way better for you. Their site also lists a load of flavors I've never gotten to try before … I'm paticularly interested in the apple… yum.

New Camera at Play

We took a little trip to Georgetown on Sunday to play around with the new camera. It's a cute little old-fashioned town with naturey things nearby, so it offered a pretty good selection of things to photograph. Above are a few of the best … here's the rest. We're getting better, honest.

Another Busy Weekend

Of course, it was another busy weekend. My day on Friday started extra early because we had our quarterly breakfast meeting at work … but that allowed me to leave earlier too and go home to hang out with Loki and have a nap. In the evening, my parents and Kelly picked me up and then we went to get Matt from the airport. After excellent Chinese cuisine at East Cafe, we went to the Denver Museum of Science and Nature to see Body Worlds. It was a neat exhibit made slightly less enjoyable by the large crowd it drew. They had the exhibit open round-the-clock since this was the last weekend and even when we went at 9:30, it was packed. Continue reading “Another Busy Weekend”

60 Buck Chucks

I saw on the Readymade Blog where you can customize a pair of Chuck Taylors to your specifications (within their parameters of course!) and even put your name on them (sorta like Nike ID, i suppose). If I didn't already own a bazillion pairs of sneakers, I might have to get them …

Anyhoo, you customize the inside and outside color of the shoes (so you could have two-tone shoes if you like) and then the stripe on the back, the tongue, the laces, the stitching and the rubber color. You can also have about 8 characters in Arial or some scripty font for a personalization. Sadly this is not enough room to write something snarky or witty (“Felony Flyer” or “60-Buck Chuck”). More's the pity.

Snaps

Ever since we got out of college (over 4 years ago), Matt and I have been wanting to get a digital SLR… but it was never quite the right time, money wise. In high school, and some into college, Matt used his film SLR, but by the time you pay for film and processing, film photography is a pricey hobby, so his film SLR has been sitting on our shelves, collecting dust. Digital with its instant and free development is such a nice way to go. We've been doing fine with our smaller, cheaper digitals. But sometimes, there's a shot that requires a really fast camera (think Loki), or a macro lens and you just can't get the shot you want. That's kinda disappointing. So after saving for a good while, we bit the bullet and purchased the Nikon D200. Matt's camera was a Nikon and so his flash and lenses all fit the new camera, so it's not as expensive a proposition as it could be. We were going to wait a bit longer and save s'more dough, but we're going on our Yellowstone trip next month and we want some time to play around with the camera and get used to it before we leave. I can hardly think of a better place to take a ton of photos than Yellowstone … woohoo!

Who Needs Sleep?

Usually, I'm a champion sleeper. World class. I get into bed, I fall asleep and I sleep straight through the night. Rarely do I dream (or that I remember anyhow). It's nice. Lately, though, sleep has been a bit tricky for me and I'm not really enjoying it. I woke up at 2:30 last night. Tossed. Turned. Listened to a book on tape (Girl of the Limberlost, in case you're curious) for over an hour. Nothing worked. So I found myself playing my new favorite video game, Lost in Blue around 4 AM this morning. I think Loki thought I was insane. He would open one eye, look over at me, kind of exasparated and go back to sleep. Lucky dog. Finally, around 5:30, I drifted off to sleep. Gues what time my alarm was set for? Yep. 6 Continue reading “Who Needs Sleep?”
