Friday Faves June 7, 2013

Well I was bummed to miss out on this last week … life, y’know. But I’m back at it this week with some cool stuff from the interwebs and other places.

Favorite Craftiness: DIY spin art made from a gladware container, a few bits of hardware and a drill.

Favorite Sweet Treat: strawberry shortcake rice krispie treats, made with angel food cake – neat idea!

Favorite Buy: I’ve started using my iPad for 99% of my previously written communications (notes, etc.) but I still like a notepad for the super quick things. I found this great pad at Michaels for $3 and it’s been great for keeping on top of my work stuff. I’m a big fan and I think I’ll go back for more before they’re gone.

Favorite Savory Treat: these salmon fish tacos look amaaaaaazing! They are topped with a honey-lime slaw that might make me give up my cabbage-hating ways.

Favorite Workout: This arm-toning workout looks pretty good. All you need are dumbells.

Favorite App: Overdrive Media Center isn’t new to me, but I’ve only recently been really using it. You are able to hook up to your local library and check out all of their available digital media. I’ve been having trouble getting audio books ripped from CDs and this has been awesome to get my audio book fix. It’s been nice too because since it’s a more limited selection, I’ve found some books I might not otherwise have tried. It’s great!

Favorite Funny: This literally made me laugh out loud.

Favorite Breakfast Nom: eggs. bacon. cheese. crescent rolls. I will definitely be trying this!!!

Favorite Day Dream: I need this awesome little gazebo house, need, you hear me!?!?

Friday Faves May 24, 2013

Another busy busy week! Looking forward to the long weekend. We need it!

Favorite Daydream: Check out this beautiful lagoon in Riomaggiore, Italy. The Mediterranean coast is gorgeous! I could go there!

Favorite Savory Treat: cool ranch, crockpot chicken. I am game to try this!

Favorite Funny: my HP nerd may be showing here, but I just adore this photo.

Favorite Breakfast Nom: angel food french toast! Maybe this should be under sweet treat, but angel food is pretty healthy, right? riiiight?

Favorite Craftiness: I think doing these chalk drawings with the kids would be so much fun. I think Tabby would really get into it and maybe Ben if I can get him to hold still for a bit! He did pretty good on his b’day.

Favorite Workout: Some great tips from Fit Sugar on running up hill. I’ve gotten lots better at this, but can definitely use some work!

Favorite Sweet Treat: check out these frozen yogurt blueberry bars – they look a little complicated but worth the effort!

Favorite App: This is an app I use practically every day for note taking at work and goofing around outside of work: Penultimate! It’s from the people who make Evernote and it’s basically a Moleskin on your iPad. It has loads of features too that I haven’t even scratched the surface on, including handwriting recognition.

Favorite Wise Words: Well Joss would know.

Friday Faves May 17, 2013

Another busy Friday! Tabby has Field Day today, so I am spending half my day at her school, playing tag and giving out popcicles and the like. Should be fun! On to another round of Friday Faves.

Favorite Daydream: check out this awesome attic movie theatre. I think what really appeals to me is the soft surfaces and cave-like look of it. I think I could watch movies or just sleep or read in here for hours.

Favorite Purchase: I tried some of this ice cream at the Mother’s Day Race I ran on the recommendation of my girlfriend. Man, she was right. I am not sure I’ve ever had better ice cream. Sweet, salty, creamy, crunchy. AWESOME. Not sure how widely available it is, since they’re a CO company, but if you can find it, BUY IT!! Coconut crunch is great too.

Favorite Savory Delight: This orange chicken with asparagus looks awesome. I think we’re heading out of asparagus season, but I want to make some next week.

Favorite App: This game’s a little hard to explain, but easy once you “get” it. You and a friend both say a random word, then you both try to find something in between your two words. Then again with the next two words you come up with until you both say the same thing. It’s also great because you can get it on Android and iOS. Interesting side note, it was developed by the band OK Go! (a personal fave).

Favorite Craftiness: Just saw this great article on how to make your own paper tape!! You just get some double-sided adhesive and put it on wrapping paper or whatever you like. Such a fun idea.

Favorite Destination: This is Faroe Islands in Denmark and it is definitely going on my must-visit list. So beautiful.

Favorite Workout: Bob Harper’s 20 minute crossfit workout is all things I love: Bob Harper and Crossfit. All you need are some dumbells and this little vid.

Favorite Sweet Thang: Check out these avalanche bars. One of my favorite candy stores, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, sells something pretty similar. It won’t happen soon because I’m trying to behave myself vis-a-vis sugar, but I will have to try these out!

Favorite Funny: bwwaaaahahhahahah! His expression says it all!!!

Favorite Wise Words: yep … well said, Sirius.

Favorite Breakfast Nom: I am constantly on the lookout for new breakfast ideas because while I could (and do) happily eat the same breakfast repeatedly for months, the kids like variety. This breakfast pizza looks great and has the protein that is hard to fit into a quickie breakfast on the way out the door. Going to try it soon – maybe for camping!

Friday Favorites May 10, 2013

I am taking a half day today in order to play assistant to my awesome hubby’s mad scientist. Should be a good time! Fridays are fun.Favorite Daydream: Loooove me some treehouses. This is a very cool collection with a few I’ve never seen before.

Favorite Craftiness: Look at this great light up constellation! A fun piece for your wall and so adaptable to other ideas.

Favorite Savory Delight: Grilling season is upon us and I cannot wait to try out these mushroom crusted turkey burgers with Havarti. Bring it on!

Favorite Purchase: I bought a new skirt at Athleta this week … this one in black. It’s super cute and great for everything from work to play!

Favorite Adventure: And speaking of play, I saw this amazing swimming hole not to far from us, Guffey’s Paradise Cove. Can’t wait to explore it. It never ceases to amaze me how many amazing places are right in our backyard.

Favorite Sweet Treat: SkinnyTaste’s Unfried Ice Cream. Tasty and lighter. Yum.

Favorite Workout: 7-minute, research-based workout that exercises your whole body. We do a lot of these in bootcamp.

Favorite App: This is fun … Pocketbooth does photobooth style photos on your phone.

Friday Favorites May 3, 2013

Favorite Printable: Tabby has been really into wanting to learn to sew – think she might get into these cute sewing practice cards!

Favorite Savory Delight: We are having quite a few people over on Tuesday and I think some pulled pork in the crockpot is the perfect dinner solution!

Favorite Funny: I do love Grumpy Cat and I saw this great painting on Etsy … I’m very tempted. It makes me laugh.

Favorite Daydream: This is actually a bit more in reality than the normal – we’re hoping to head to Utah next summer for a family road trip and this looks like a great book of hikes to do with the kids!

Favorite Sweet Treat: Look at these nutella popicles – just three ingredients. YUM.

Favorite Photo Fun: Owling? Planking? Move over – Vadering! Think I could get the kids to do this.

Favorite Workout: Moves for below the bellybutton … surely I don’t need this? Nah.

Favorite Purchase: I bought this guy a couple of months ago, but it wasn’t really smoothie season then. Now it is (sorta) and I’ve been using it every day to make awesome spinach smoothies. Very happy with it. Favorite App: The latest installment of Cut the Rope is great! It’s one of those apps that everyone in the family loves – cute graphics and fun problem solving.

Man, I barely thought about the blog this week. The new job is kicking my bum just a bit. Very very busy. But good. And I feel like I’m getting it and it will be easier soonish. I hope. Anyhow, I did see a few new cool things this week:

Favorite Sweet Thang: Look at these mini monkey bread cinnamon breads … easy and YUM!

Favorite Purchase: I actually bought this a couple of weeks ago, and am finally going to play it tonight (hopefully, if I don’t pass out too soon) … the latest expansion pack in The Sims lineup: University. I hardly ever get to veg and play a good game, so I’m looking forward to it!

Favorite Savory Delight: Beef and Sweet Potato Curry with Kale looks delish … I love sweet potato in just about anything and add curry and kale and it sound awesome!

Favorite Craftiness: this looks like a great board (similar to pinterest, but not) full of DIY furniture projects. I especially like the sawhorse tables and the coffee tables (we need a new one).

Favorite Freebie: I’ve been using the blue watercolor desktop from Design Love Fest for a couple of weeks. It’s so simple and pretty.

Favorite App: Just downloaded this Endless Alphabet App for the kiddos. It’s a really pretty alphabet “game” with spelling lessons and vocab. It’s free too!

Favorite Wise Words: this pretty much says it all … maybe I need it for my new office.

Favorite Funny: saw this on Pinterest with the note “my mom asked me for a ‘formal’ photo of my 1 month old baby so I sent her this” LOL!

Friday Favorites 4/19/13

What a Friday! I’ve got a company-wide staff breakfast, a jobsite visit, a few other meetings, two overnight guests arriving around 5 and our Nashville family arriving around 6. So we better get down to it with another edition of my Friday Favorites.

Favorite Craftiness: I very much like the look of this Perpetual Chalkboard Calendar. Except mine would have to be dry erase … maybe fronted with plexi glass?

Favorite Daydream: I wish I’d known about this gorgeous Japanese Garden in Portland when I was there a couple of years ago. Of course I had no car and it rained the whole time I was there, so …

Favorite Sweet Thang: I’m pretty sure this Caramel Popcorn is a horribly-carborific bad idea, but I want to try to make it anyhow!!

Favorite Wise Words: Dr. Suess was a smart man. I like his take on Nonsense.

Favorite Breakfast Noms: I think this Blueberry Cream Cheese French Toast will be a huge hit with the family.

Favorite Workout: Run, Burpee, Run … am I sick to think this looks like fun? I think I’ll try it tonight!

Favorite Funny: this amuses me far more than it should

Favorite Purchase: I finally broke down and bought a griddle. I hate to add things to the kitchen, but it is awesome cooking pancakes on these and you can fit soooo many!!

Favorite App: So if you’re a Google Reader afficianado, you know it is dunzo here pretty soon. I’ve tried out a few options and Feedly is my favorite. It’s got great apps for ALL platforms and a pretty good extension for the browsers. It imports seamlessly from Google as well and switch-over is (supposedly) seamless when Google turns off the lights.

Favorite Savory Delight: Another recipe from Iowa Girl(originator of the Friday Faves concept, I might add) I cannot wait to try: Smothered Sweet Potato Fries!!

Friday Favorites – Lateish

It was a crazy week! Next week is the last week for swim lessons and man I am READY! Some of my faves from this crazy week:

Favorite Buy: Season2 of Call the Midwife has started and I bought the two eps that are currently out. I still have yet to watch them, but I know they’re sitting there on my Amazon account just waiting for me!

Favorite Sweet Thing: Homemade Strawberry Angel Food Cake Ice Cream!

Favorite Great Idea: Attaching baskets to the insides of your closet doors to be catch-alls for hats, purses, gloves, etc.

Favorite App: Photo Lettering lets you use COOL typography on your photographs.

Favorite Day Dream: Don’t really care about the booze, but I lurve the styling on this Boozey Teardrop!

Favorite Savory Delight: Love this spring-inspired house warming menu from The Kitchn! All of it. Like I might have to make it when I host Bunco next month!

Favorite Workout: It just occurred to me that I am running TWO races in a couple of weeks and sorely need to get my bum in gear. And I love (sort of) the idea of these running drills!

Favorite Craftiness: I’m guessing this Ombre t’shirt isn’t as easy as it looks, but it sure is pretty!

Favorite Crazy Item: Check out this utterly bizarre wine dispenser. I love wine, but err … probably not that much!

Favorite Sweet Thang: Sriracha caramel corn! Salty, sweet and SPICY. MMMM

Favorite Great Idea: Summer passport! Figure out what you want to do this summer, fill a small notebook and get to stamping that guy!

Favorite App: Toca Boca makes cool kids apps – tea parties, clothing design, hair cutting. Good clean creative fun!

Favorite Day Dream: Vintage 17′ Leocraft Camper. Already sold, otherwise there might just have been an impromptu road trip to Canada for me to purchase. Seriously, love that yellow!!!

Favorite Savory Delight: Butternut Squash Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Caramelized Onions, Bacon and Apple – a mouthful in more ways than one!

Favorite Workout: Did this 5-4-3-2-1 workout on Tuesday. A nice mix of cardio and body-weight workout.

Favorite Craftiness: Make Your Own Map Magnets – pretty sure the kids need these, right??

Favorite Breakfast Nom: Amish Cinnamon Bread … I think I could choke a piece of this down.
