Celebration

Last night we went to Frasca for dinner to celebrate. It was the first time we'd ever dined there and we really enjoyed the food.

We were celebrating lots. Yesterday was Kelly's first day of law school, My dad's birthday was on the 14th, mine was on the 4th and our anniversary was the 17th. Kell, Matt and I gave my dad a couple of history books, an Alton Brown book and some cooking gear. My mom got him a digital camera, a duffel bag and some other goodies.

For our anniversary, my family got us plus “Thing 1 and Thing 2” figures. They're so cute! I put them in the shelves in our retreat. We are Thing 1 and Thing 2.

My sis got me silver earrings with spirals on them, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on DVD and yummy peach lip balm she got from Urban Outfitters. My parents got me a Le Sport Sac weekender tote, a corduroy jacket and a fleece vest from Eddie Bauer. I also got as a souvenir/b'day present a Blossom alarm clock that came all the way from San Francisco. I'm worried I'm forgetting something, but I can't think of what!! I had a very very nice elongated b'day with many many nice surprises.

I'm so lucky.

Brain Hurts

I've been using Stumble Upon for a while now. Stumble Upon is a browser add in that lets a user randomly find web pages that match certain interests. I normally use this when I'm pretty bored and can't think of anything else to do. Normally, I find a few humorous quotes or a Flash presentation, but nothing that takes a lot of time.

Tonight however, about the time I needed to go bed, I ran across a Flash game called Grow RPG by eyemaze.com. This is actually a puzzle where you have to place 8 pieces in a particular order. After each piece is laid, some of the previous pieces “GROW” based on the order in which you placed them. Once all the pieces are laid, your character attempts to fight a few creatures. You know how well you did based on far he gets before he dies.

It sounds simple, but if my math is correct, there are 40320 ways the eight pieces can be placed. It took me over an hour to solve it. I fumbled around for a bit, got frustrated, looked online for the solution, couldn't find that fast enough to suit me but did find some kid who solved in in 10 minutes. After my pride recovered, I sat down with a pen a paper and spent the next hour working it out (it would be much faster if you didn't have to watch the animations each time). It was fun but it should have started earlier than 10:30 PM.

I'm Not an Adult, but I Play One on TV

Legally, I suppose I've ben an adult for (yikes!) seven years now. But I've never really felt very “grown up.” Sadly, I'm starting to feel that way. I was very disturbed to find that I was practically giddy over setting up my 401(k) and a new savings account.

I'm married and more often than not, I see people my age with kids and sensible sedans, not school bags and mopeds. But just because I becomre more mature and responsible doesn't mean I have to give up all the fun. I can still watch cartoons and read baby-chick lit and appreciate a new box of colored pencils. It's not against the law. And I swear I will *never* have a sensible sedan.

Library Magic

When I go to the library, I turn into a four-year-old again. It's amazing what walking into that building does to me. Libraries are so full of potential and knowledge and possibilities and fun and I'm instantly returned to my youth. My mom would take my sister and I to the library on a regular basis. We'd pick all the books we could carry and bring them home and have bedtime stories with both our parents every night (or what seemed like every night). So many of those books are still with me … their stories, lessons and characters … and so is my love of reading and learning.

Before I moved away, I had no idea how amazing our libraries are… not just my county, but Denver public libraries are very very highly ranked and with good reason. As I'm getting back into the groove of using the library, I'm constantly amazed at what is available: practically anything I want to read or watch or listen to is available through the public library. Surprise!!

Just as I was about to head out to lunch, these beauties showed up. I don't know how many of them there are. I'd guess at least 100. They smell so nice, not sweet, but fresh … mmmm.

I was so surprised!! This is the first time Matt's sent me flowers. Not that he's not thoughtful and spontaneous and romantic … he is. It just usually comes in the form of a video card or something like that.

I'm insanely happy though. Daisies are one of my favorite flowers. I wore them in my hair when we got married and they were on our wedding cake. *sigh*

Three Years!

Three years ago today, Matt and I were married. It was one of the happiest days of my life and the past three years have been amazing. I love being with him … just something as simple as cleaning the house or cooking or something grand like traveling. It's such a happy life that we share.

For our anniversary, today all we will do is talk on the phone. Sadly, Matt had to be away for business this week. But he'll be back on Friday and we'll spend it doing something we rarely get to do anymore: spending an evening at home, playing video games, watching DVDs, reading … whatever we like. I'm looking forward to it. Continue reading “Three Years!”

Stuck in My Head

I'd nearly forgotten that Ani tagged me with a music meme:

List ten songs that you are currently digging … it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're no good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the ten songs in your blog. Then tag five other people to see what they're listening to.

5 to tag: Jess, Meg, Wil, Tania and Alton. One day, someone famous will actually take my tag. Haha.

10. Sex and the City Theme (it's one of the rings on my phone .. hehe)
9. Shopping by Barenaked Ladies
8. Sway by Bic Runga
7. Valley Winter Song by Fountains of Wayne
6. Shine by Collective Soul Continue reading “Stuck in My Head”

Surprise

On Friday when I was coming home from work, I stopped by Target and picked up Stronghold 2 for Matt. I got home and he had gone out to get us some lunch and so I went up to his office and put it on his desk. I kinda forgot about it after that. He came home and we had our lunch and then he went back upstairs while I cleaned up.

I was loading the dishwasher when he came down and gave me a big happy hug and kiss. I just love to surprise him. He's an excellent candidate for a surprise.

PS. Anyone else think that dude looks like Keanu Reeves?
